Ocean Alley, Django Django, and More Join Wanderer Festival

With a brand-new lineup announcement this morning, this year’s Wanderer Festival is shaping up to be one of the hottest tickets in town. Ocean Alley, Django Django, Thelma Plum, and Gomez’s Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball are among the artists just announced. They join previously revealed acts including Spiderbait, Lisa Mitchell, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, and The Jungle Giants.

“I’m thrilled with how Wanderer is shaping up this year. We’re curating a really strong program consistent with what Wanderer is all about. It is diverse in every sense and includes plenty of well-known favourites as well as amazing new talent,” confirmed the festival’s organiser, Simon Daly. “We are really proud to be delivering such a world-class event in the Sapphire Coast. It is really rewarding creating something so equally loved by both the local community as well as travellers coming from all over Australia for an unforgettable experience in this stunning part of the world.”

Wanderer Festival hits Yuin Country/Pambula Beach from September 29 to October 1. Tickets range from $50 and $320 and are available now through the Wanderer Festival website.

Ocean Alley Celebrate Five Years of “Chiaroscuro” With Vinyl Release

How has it been five years since Ocean Alley released their breakthrough album Chiaroscuro? I have no idea, but hearing the news that they’re releasing an exclusive vinyl repress and some time capsule merch inspired me to give it another listen. Hearing it again, I still can’t believe it’s been five years. This album still sounds so fresh!

“Tell ur friends” About Dulcie’s New Single

It’s only early, but 2022 is shaping up to be a pretty exciting year for Western Australian trio Dulcie. They’ve just released a boppy new single “tell ur friends” and they’re currently touring the country with Ocean Alley. Life’s good for this talented trio!

The track is a collaboration between Dulcie and Polarheart’s Chris Chidiac. It celebrates self-worth, something we should all nurture whether we’re in a relationship or enjoying the single life.

“This song came about a bit like Frankenstein – with various bits and bobs picked from previous half-written songs and merged together with a song co-written with Chris Chidiac,” Dulcie explained. “It’s about that awkward ‘what are we’ phase in a relationship and the inner knowing of your own self-worth.”

Those Ocean Alley dates aren’t the only opportunities fans have to see Dulcie in the flesh. The trio can’t wait to get back in front of audiences.

“We’re so excited to be able to FINALLY hit the road and share our new music this February supporting Ocean Alley. It’s been 2 VERY LONG YEARS waiting for this tour to happen. Then we head out on our own headline tour in April! Feels like we’ve re-invented ourselves to a whole new level and can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on and get back to playing across the country!”

Ocean Alley’s New Album on the Horizon to Chase Away COVID Blues

With concerts scheduled for as far away as November now getting the COVID-19 axe, music lovers need some good news. A reminder that Ocean Alley’s new album Lonely Diamond is only weeks away should hit the spot.

Lonely Diamond will hit stores and streaming platforms on June 19. But you needn’t wait that long to hear new Ocean Alley tunes. Wrap your ears around the band’s funky new single “Hot Chicken.” It’s a little edgier than the Ocean Alley tunes we’re used to, but I’m here for it.

Ocean Alley’s rescheduled Aussie dates are also giving us something to look forward to. Catch one of Australia’s finest supported by Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Dulcie at the following shows.

Ocean Alley Drop New Music Ahead of Laneway Shows

Ocean Alley have kept a fairly relentless touring schedule over the last 12 months, but they’ve still found time to write and demo some new music. New single “Tombstone” is one of the latest tracks to come out of those creative stints. Its easy blend of funk, soul, and classic rock showcases everything that made Ocean Alley one of the hottest bands in the country.

Ocean Alley spent much of 2019 abroad playing shows in New Zealand, Bali, Canada, the USA, Europe, and the UK, but they’ll be back on home soil next month for the Laneway Festival shows. They’ll also support Six60 in New Zealand. Catch them at all the following gigs.

1 February – Laneway Festival, Brisbane
2 February – Laneway Festival, Sydney
7 February – Laneway Festival, Adelaide
8 February – Laneway Festival, Melbourne
9 February – Laneway Festival, Fremantle
22 February – Western Springs, Auckland (supporting Six60)

Ocean Alley Stage Charity Festival, A Day for the Beaches

Ocean Alley are giving back to their native Northern Beaches, curating and headlining a fantastic festival for charity next month. A Day for the Beaches is an all ages, drug- and alcohol-free event raising funds for Cerebral Palsy Alliance and One Eighty, a grassroots organisation working to prevent youth suicide.

They aren’t doing it alone though. Ocean Alley will share the stage with Dear Seattle, Eagle Eye Jones, Stump, Liquid Time, The Brights, Monkey Knife Fight, and BUTTERBOX. The event will also feature food trucks, market stalls, and local art displays.

A Day for the Beaches will take over Narabeen’s Rat Park on November 16. Tickets are on sale now from Oztix.

Ocean Alley Prepare for Final Aussie Tour of 2018 to Promote “Happy Sad” Single

As I listened to Ocean Alley’s current single “Happy Sad” for the umpteenth time today, I came to a shocking realisation. Somehow I neglected to write about it. With the song’s video just released and a regional tour approaching, there seemed no better time to correct the oversight.

I just love this song, with its wailing guitars that seem to cry in response to the yearning lyrics. Vocalist Baden Donegal captures those bittersweet feelings of a relationship gone wrong so perfectly. Then there’s that fantastic video, with footage captured on four cameras over Ocean Alley’s recent Aussie and American tour.

Punters are snapping up tickets at a cracking pace for what will be Ocean Alley’s last headlining shows of the year. Get yours now, if they haven’t already sold out!

29 September 2018 – Yours & Owls Festival, Wollongong
5 October 2018 – The Beery, Terrigal
7 October 2018 – UC Refectory, Canberra
12 October 2018 – The Roundhouse, Sydney
14 October 2018 – Miami Marketta, Gold Coast

Ocean Alley Continue Winning Ways With “Knees”

Sydney band Ocean Alley can seem to do no wrong, and the rest of the world is beginning to take notice. They’ve just dropped another stellar single, “Knees,” from their critically acclaimed sophomore album Chiaroscuro, and I can’t stop listening.

It’s the perfect blend of soul and rock, full of yearning and honesty.

Ocean Alley are currently in the midst of a massive North American tour. If you’re in that part of the world, here are the remaining dates. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we see some shows back here in Oz.

Ocean Alley Drops Sexy New Single Ahead of New Album Release

I’ve been impressed with Sydney’s Ocean Alley since the release of their sophomore EP In Purple way back in 2015. But the strength of their new single “Confidence” makes me wonder whether their new album Chiaroscuro may be their most accomplished to date.

There’s a, dare I say it, confidence in this track. The groove is laidback but the band so tight. The song’s lyrics won’t change the world, but the vocals are utterly sexy. I’m also a sucker for any clip that involves roller skating.

Chiaroscuro drops on March 9. Ocean Alley will tour the album around the country with appearances at Groovin the Moo and some headlining dates.

14 April 2018 – The Tivoli, Brisbane
21 April 2018 – The Enmore, Sydney
27 April 2018 – Groovin The Moo, Wayville

5 May 2018 – Groovin The Moo, Bendigo
6 May 2018 – Groovin The Moo, Townsville
11 May 2018 – Metropolis, Fremantle
12 May 2018 – Groovin The Moo, Bunbury
19 May 2018 – The Forum, Melbourne

Ocean Alley Back with “Holiday”

We might have just had the Christmas and New Year break, but now we’re in February most of us feel like we’re back to the daily grind, where holidays are too far away. We don’t even get another public holiday until late next month. For shame. Even if you can’t take a real life getaway any time soon, you can take an audio one with Ocean Alley’s cruisy new single “Holiday.”

I was really impressed by this band and the way they combined reggae with psychedelic sounds with the release of their EP In Purple last year. If anything I think this track might be a step above the material on that debut release. It feels a little more focused, although the band hasn’t lost any of their individuality.

“Holiday” is the first single lifted from Ocean Alley’s upcoming debut album Lost Tropics, which is scheduled for an April 2016 release. Before then we’ll see the band playing cool boutique festivals like Party in the Paddock and Mountain Sounds Festival and announcing some New Zealand tour dates.
