Flicks Not Broken Up, But On a Break

Brisbane punk-popsters Flicks have decided to take a breather, although fans will get a chance to say goodbye before their extended hiatus.

“Earlier this week for the first time in a month Flicks sat down as a full band and discussed our future together,” the band said in a statement. “The final decision we have come to is a hard one but we feel it is also the right one. We have come to the decision that we will be going on an extended break from playing shows. We are all going to go our separate ways for a little while to try and write some truly exciting new music for you all. It is important to understand that we are all good friends still and that Flicks is not dead. We have been playing the same songs and basically the same set for so long we need to breathe new life into the band and reinvent ourselves to some extent with new music.”

Flicks will still appear at Brisbane’s On the Pulse festival on October 23 as scheduled before playing a charity show in Sydney later this month. It was important for the band to get one last chance to connect with their very loyal fan base.

“You guys have always been so supportive of us,” they said. “We have some of the most enthusiastic, supportive and amazing fans ever and we truly appreciate everything you do for us to help spread word about the band. We will be back we just don’t know when … but it will be with new music and better than ever. This is not goodbye … we’ll see you again.”

Let’s hope so!

Your Band Could Play On the Pulse

The line-up for Brisbane’s youth festival On The Pulse is starting to take shape, with just two slots left. And if you’re in a band, you could take one of them.

If you want to play on the same stage as Finabah, Flicks, Burning Brooklyn, and Words Versing Verses just head to the On the Pulse festival website to register your interest. All you need to do is to submit a MySpace page link, and the judges will check you out. Six bands will become finalists, and then the final two will be decided with a public vote.

Submissions close on Wednesday September 22 so don’t procrastinate; head to the website for a chance to take your music to the Brisbane masses on October 23!

New On the Pulse Festival Brings Bands to Brisbane Kids

And those festival announcements just keep on coming. On the Pulse is a new kid on the block, but something tells me this youth-oriented event is going to take off in a big way.

It’ll bring 15 unsigned and independent punk, rock, and pop acts to Brisbane on October 23; they’ll play across two stages at the Fortitude Valley PCYC and The Hive. Acts on the bill include up and comers Finabah, Flicks, Burning Brooklyn, Words Versing Verses, and Starting Sunday.

“On The Pulse has been created not only to create a quality festival platform for our younger and growing artists, but also to present an exciting opportunity for young music fans to be introduced to new music and exciting new bands,” said festival promoter Marc Mancini.

Parents can rest easy as this is a completely drug and alcohol free event. Tickets cost $25 and are on sale now through Oztix, Rockinghorse Records, Kill the Music, and Sunflower Music.
