Go Star Spotting with Vigilantes’ “Elasticity” Video

Vigilantes have enlisted the help of some of their favourite artists to make the video for their new single, “Elasticity.” Art vs Science, Andy Bull, and Pluto Jonze all appear in the retro-inspired clip, which was shot over three nights around Redfern, Surry Hills, and the Sydney CBD.

“Elasticity” is perfect Sunday fare. It’s danceable, reminding us that there’s still some life in the weekend yet, without being too high-energy.

What do you think of it?

“Sucker” – Pluto Jonze

Sydney’s Pluto Jonze has offered up the perfect remedy to those mid-week blues with his latest EP Sucker. This recording has such positive energy, whether Pluto Jonze is inviting us to party when he’s gone (“Wear Purple at My Funeral”) or chow down in Asia (“Breakfast in Korea”). The title track “Sucker” is a bit more serious than the other songs on the EP, but I think we need numbers with such emotional heart to balance the recording.

“Sucker” is weird and wacky, but so much fun. It’s full of hooks and synths and all of that stuff that makes you smile. It’s unashamedly pop, but pop that loves to live left of the center. Think The Cars, Ween, or early Beck, but with that extra special something you just can’t put your finger on.

Pluto Jonze will kick off the Sucker launch shows in Melbourne tomorrow night.

Pluto Jonze’s Genre Bending New Single

I’m really impressed by “See What the Sun Sees,” the dreamy new single from Sydney music Pluto Jonze. The song gets a digital release today.

Pluto was influences by artists like Beatles and Bowie, and you can hear some of their epic qualities and love of theatre in this tune. It doesn’t fit neatly into any genre, and perhaps because of that feels really fresh. The closest I can come to categorizing it would be psychedelic pop, but perhaps it’s better to listen rather than agonising over labels.

Pluto is celebrating the release of “See What the Sun Sees” with a quickie tour around the East Coast. Catch him in the capitals later this month.
