Mermaid Avenue Releases Stunning Sixth Single From “Sugartown”

Most albums have a few strong singles and a whole lot of filler. So it’s impressive that Mermaid Avenue are still delivering the goods with “Prisoner,” the sixth (yes, sixth!) single from their soon-to-be-released album Sugartown.

This track has got everything you want to hear. Incredible multipart harmonies, a soaring slide, killer guitar solos, incredible lyrics about the human condition. It’s all here, and it’s glorious.

Mermaid Avenue have definitely left us waiting a long time for Sugartown, but they should stop teasing us soon. I hear it’s dropping sometime early this year.

Harry Carman’s New Single “Prisoner” Much More Than Pop

Canberra’s Harry Carman defies genre with his new single “Prisoner.” The press release claims it’s “a melodic, up-tempo 3-minute pop song” but that description doesn’t go far enough. The brass hooks and bass have a real jazzy flavour, and those wailing guitars are pure rock. It takes the listener on a real journey, engaging from start to finish.

“When I wrote ‘Prisoner’ I was broke, sleeping on a friend’s couch and living a self-destructive lifestyle. My first EP was out, and I wanted the rock star lifestyle – sex, drugs and rock & roll – the problem was that I wasn’t a rock star, in fact far from it,” Harry explained. “’Prisoner’ is a song about breaking up with that way of life and focusing on the music, I wrote the song from the perspective of an abusive relationship, because that’s what it was, an abusive relationship between myself and the person I wanted to be.”

“Prisoner” comes from Harry’s upcoming EP State of Sedation, which should drop in the middle of the year.

The Jezabels Ready “Prisoner” Release

It’s been a long time coming, but after spending whatever time they weren’t on the road this year in the studio, The Jezabels are almost ready to unleash their debut album, Prisoner.

The release sees the band teaming up again with producer Lachlan Mitchell, the wizard behind their first three EPs. You know what they say about not fixing what ain’t broke. The record features the first single “Endless Summer,” which we should hear on radio sometime in the next week or two.

The Jezabels have been doing amazing things in the past year, earning critical acclaim with shows in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, and at home. The album release is sure to solidify their reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting new acts.

Prisoner will hit all good record stores on September 16. Stay tuned to Sounds of Oz for a national tour announcement soon!
