Emma Dean Signs American Record Deal

Emma Dean seems on the path to international stardom after signing a record deal with American indie label Candyrat Records. The label is best known for its stable of instrumental guitarists, but more recently it’s begun to champion exceptional singer-songwriters.

The US label will release Emma’s forthcoming EP White, which should hit the market in March or April of this year. It will be one of three colourful digital EPs Emma will release this year. White will feature intimate ballads about new beginnings performed on a Wurlitzer. The following release, Red, will showcase theatrical and passionate songs focused around the heart. Finally there’s Black, the darkest of the bunch, sexy and jazz-inspired.

Emma and her long-time musical collaborator and co-producer Ben Stewart will move to New York next month to support the upcoming releases.

Heartbreak Club Sign with Centrifuge

Heartbreak Club’s 2011 is off to a great start after signing with Centrifuge Music Publishing Group.

Centrifuge isn’t one of the big names in the Australian industry, but it boasts an impressive roster featuring Noiseworks, Sierra Fin, Artisan Guns, and The Never Ever. Surely joining a relatively small label will see Heartbreak Club’s talent nurtured on a really personal level.

Heartbreak Club say they plan to release one more single from their debut album Our Horse is Dead early this year before knuckling down to write their next disc. Watch this space for more details on that!

Matt Corby Inks International Deals Ahead of Aussie Single Tour

Australian Idol graduate Matt Corby seems to be travelling just fine without winning the talent show title, thank you very much.

He’s just returned home after spending the past two months making industry connections and recording his sophomore EP. That disc will receive an international release through the Communion label run by Mumford and Sons’ Ben Lovett. It seems the pair has really hit it off as Matt will also support Mumford and Sons on their upcoming Sydney shows.

That’s not the only exciting news though. Matt also recently inked a worldwide publishing deal with the UK division of major record label BMG.

While all that’s very thrilling it seems his focus is on the home front for now. Ahead of the Mumford and Sons shows, Matt will take his original songs all around the country on a headlining national tour to promote his new single “My False.”

Katie Noonan Signs with Sony BMG

The gorgeous Katie Noonan has just signed a new record deal with Sony BMG Australia that will see her release a new album by the end of the year.

“I have admired Katie from her first release and I am delighted that she has joined our label. We will be releasing her new studio album in October and I am sure it will gain her even further acclaim from existing and new fans here and abroad,” said Sony BMG Chairman Denis Handlin.

Katie will head to New York shortly to record the release with some massive names. Her band will include original Miles Davis quartet member Lewis Nash, Grammy-award winning saxophonist Joe Lovano, jazz guitar legend John Scofield, and Melbourne’s own Sam Keevers. I thought Katie’s first solo effort Skin was brilliant, so I can’t wait to hear this star-studded new release!

Wolf & Cub’s UK Deal

Adelaide indie outfit Wolf & Cub have just landed a prestigious publishing deal with UK’s Domino. This is the same company who work with global megastars Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys, so it’s massive news for our local lads.

“Joel Byrne (Wolf & Cub) writes great tunes that rock our world and Domino Publishing is proud to have him on board,” Domino’s general manager Paul Lambden said.

The news comes just after Wolf & Cub released their debut album Vessels in the United Kingdom. They’re currently hard at work in the studio writing and recording album number two. We should hear a taste of it soon with the first single scheduled for a mid-year release.
