Rude Rum Become Reckless Coast

Brisbane band Rude Rum released some of my favourite rock songs of the last few years. So I was thrilled to hear they’re back with a brand new name, a fabulous new track, and an East Coast tour. Now known as Reckless Coast, these guys are impressing me all over again with their latest single “Do You Want Me?” It’s rock music the way it’s meant to be, a little rough around the edges but irresistibly catchy. Hit that volume button and crank it up to really appreciate its brilliance.

Frontman Jaeden Ogston wrote the song during a bar shift that crawled by. If you’ve ever worked a dead-end job, you’re going to appreciate it.

“I was sick of it that night … running around collecting glasses, handling the TAB, trying to serve, all without any help in sight,” he recalled. “I was often burnt out which affected my music, and I just wanted to focus on what I love. The thoughts going through my head on that shift pretty much wrote the song.”

He added that the name change was necessary as the band enters a brand-new chapter.

“The old name didn’t portray us properly,” he explained. “Plus, we’ve grown so much sonically and personally, so a fresh name was needed. We’re three kids who grew up on the coast, and love a good rock show … Reckless Coast sums us up perfectly”

Rude Rum Release Rocking New Single, “Talk”

Brisbane band Rude Rum have just dropped their latest single “Talk,” and I can’t stop listening. With infectious hooks and plenty of swagger, this is rock music the way it’s meant to be.

“This is definitely one of our most attitude-filled tracks” explained the band’s frontman and songwriter Jaeden Ogston. “It was created with such raw emotional energy, and definitely nurtures a new side of our persona by stepping away from previous funk-esque influences”.

You might have seen Rude Rum touring with FANGZ or Total Pace, but they’re ready to play their own headlining shows around their home state. Check them out at the following venues to see how they bring all that energy to the stage.

3 September 2021 – Studio 188, Ipswich
11 September 2021 – Vinnie’s Dive Bar, Gold Coast

Rock Out With Rude Rum

Brisbane rock act Rude Rum delivers serious swagger with its latest single “Got That Feelin’.” It’s such a confident release, I was shocked to hear these guys only formed last year. Those charismatic vocals and funky riff sound so self-assured, I was sure this was the work of some seasoned pros.

“Got That Feelin'” the follow-up to “Curious Affection,” and the two songs have plenty in common.

“’Got That Feelin’’ is the funky sister to its sibling ‘Curious Affection’,” explained Rude Rum’s lead singer and guitarist Jaeden Ogston. “Both songs developed around a similar period in time, however, ‘Got that Feelin’’ features a much more funk-inspired riff and underlying tonality; especially some of the guitar tones where a thinner harmonic quality and sharper attack of the playing style pays homage to old school funk recordings where they often plugged straight into the console rather than an amp. People kept saying to us at our shows ‘That should be your next single!’ or ‘When are you going to record that one?’ so it was definitely a clear choice to release this tune next and plus combined with our own style, it ended up as a super tasty track which really adds dynamic to our catalogue.”

Rude Rum is the sort of act that loves playing anywhere, anytime. Needless to say, COVID-19 has hit them hard and they’re absolutely frothing to share their music with people in person. Follow the band’s Facebook page to learn when they’re back at local venues.
