Reality Graduates Remake “I Am Australian”

Australia Day might have been and gone, but you can continue feeling patriotic when you check out this star-studded remake of “I Am Australian.”

The song features a host of reality show graduates, including Jessica Mauboy, Samantha Jade, Justice Crew, Dami Im, Taylor Henderson, and Nathaniel. And together they sound pretty fabulous! This recording isn’t the best, but it gives you a taste of what this new crop of Aussie pop talent can do! And is there any backdrop better than Sydney Harbour?

Bliss N Eso Top Aussie Charts

Bliss N Eso have scored their second consecutive number one album this week with their newie, Circus in the Sky. They also hit the top spot with Running on Air in 2010.

With that, Harrison Craig’s debut More Than a Dream was always going to slip, but I’m impressed that his album hasn’t fallen by much. He’s at number two this week, a feat that’s made even more impressive when you consider he’s fended off competition from Hillsong Live. Their albums always sell truckloads, but their latest Glorious Ruins could only manage a number three debut. When was the last time we saw three Aussie albums holding down the top three chart positions? Awesome stuff.

Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey continue to do great business with The Great Country Songbook. It’s slipped a little, but it’s still finished a respectable number six.

Timomatic and Matt Corby are also still hanging around the singles charts. Timomatic’s “Parachute” has dropped one spot to number four, while Matt’s holding steady with “Resolution” at ten. Samantha Jade’s enjoyed a respectable debut considering how long ago she won The X Factor. Her latest single “Fire Starter” sits at number nine.

Guy Sebastian’s “Armageddon” Number One Again

Guy Sebastian is once again sitting pretty at the top of the ARIA Albums Charts. His latest smash Armageddon returns to the number one spot this week. He’s the lone Aussie in the top 10, but things are a little brighter for local talent on the singles chart.

Again we see Guy; his latest single “Get Along” is holding steady at number five. He’s keeping company with recent X Factor graduates Samantha Jade and The Collective. Sammy has slid back a little this week, but her single “What You’ve Done To Me” is still performing well. It sits at number two. The Collective are also making their presence felt with “Surrender.” It was just pipped by Guy’s number this week, but a number six debut is nothing to sneeze at.

Samantha Jade Tops ARIA Singles Charts

X Factor winner Samantha Jade has soared into the ARIA countdown to claim the top spot on the singles charts. Samantha Jade’s debut song “What You’ve Done to Me” achieved gold status in just two days, and wasn’t challenged for the number one.

She’s keeping company in the singles chart with her X Factor mentor Guy Sebastian. His latest release “Get Along” zoomed from number 34 all the way up to number five this week. Talk about a big mover!

Guy’s also the best performing Aussie on the albums charts. Armageddon’s jumped up one place this week to sit at number four.

Samantha Jade Wins X Factor

After months of knockout rounds, Samantha Jade was the last person standing on last night’s X Factor final. The Western Australian pop princess took the title from second-place getter Jason Owen and boy band The Collective.

This has been a funny season for me to watch. I switched allegiances time and time again as my favourite acts were eliminated: first Fourtunate, then Nathaniel Willemse, then Bella, and finally The Collective at the final hurdle.

I also watched Sammi grow from the girl most likely to get the boot to the last woman standing. Her confidence seemed to soar, and as she did her performances grew stronger and her voice more self-assured. Her brand of music isn’t the sort of thing I’d rush out and buy, but she’s easily as talented as other similar chart toppers like Rihanna and Beyonce.

Many spoke of Jason’s journey through the competition, but even at the end I thought he was little more than a mediocre RSL act. He seemed like a nice guy with a fairly interesting story, but I failed to see that X Factor we’ve often spoken about. I’ll be surprised if he has a career that outlasts the show’s 15 minutes of fame.

The Collective are another matter though. They’re five very good looking boys with exceptional voices. Their moves are a bit naff, but they’re the same ones Human Nature performed that made me weak at the knees as a teen. Something tells me that kind of thing doesn’t have a use by date. Look out One Direction; these guys could easily steal your fans.

The competition unearthed plenty of other great talents too. I really hope to see Fourtunate and Bella capitalising on the exposure. Angel and Nathaniel also have that special something. Once again, we’ve seen the depth of talent Australia has to offer. Congratulations to all involved!

Samantha Jade Brushed Off For Britney

Young Perth popette Samantha Jade made headlines in the US recently when she almost stole Britney Spears thunder.

Apparently Britney kept crews waiting 12 hours to shoot the film clip for her new single “Pieces of Me.” Britney’s frustrated label Jive then offered the shoot to her stablemate Samantha. But apparently when Britney arrived Jive withdrew their offer, but the story gave Samantha some much-needed US publicity.

“It’s hard when you’ve got so many big artists on the same label,” Samantha admitted to The Sunday Telegraph. “You always feel like you’re getting pushed back a little bit, so it was nice to have an opportunity to do another video.

“I’m just very excited that I’m getting some press out there.”

But will anyone remember the story when Samantha releases her debut album early next year? Somehow I don’t think so.
