Queensland Talent Turn Out for Homeless Youth at Youturn IT UP! Show

Tia Gostelow, Shag Rock, Sametime, and Toxic Fox are coming together to support the Sunshine Coat’s homeless youth with a benefit concert on April 11. Youturn IT UP! will raise money for local charity Youturn Youth Support.

“We did our research and we loved that Youturn is a local, grassroots charity who are focused on supporting young people on the Sunshine Coast, and in SE Queensland,” explained Tim and Sam from Sametime, who are also ambassadors for the charity. “They have a passionate team, who are really dedicated to making a difference to the vulnerable people in their care, as artists and musicians, we hope to use our time and talent to help raise Youturn’s profile and the amazing work they are doing.”

Youturn IT UP! is the first in a series of benefit concerts designed to raise money and awareness of youth homelessness and bring the community together for a great time. It hits Night Quarter on the Sunshine Coast on April 11. Get your tickets now from Oztix.

Shag Rock Release Dream-Inspired Single “Fuzzy Connection”

Shag Rock have got your Saturday soundtrack sorted with their feel-good new single “Fuzzy Connection.” It’s a return to form for the band, with its jangly guitar riffs and cool indie pop groove. Like so many great tracks, it came to the band in a dream.

“Believe it or not, this song was actually written in a dream where the whole band were at some sick party. In the dream our bass player wrote it, so technically all credit goes to him,” explained lead guitarist Jacob Reed. “Basically I woke up at 1.30am one night, somehow remembered the chorus from the song in that dream, grabbed the out-of-tune acoustic sitting next to my bed, worked out the basic chords and croakily sung the chorus. Then when I woke up the next morning, I realised I recorded something that night on my phone and it wasn’t the worst thing in the world”

The release of “Fuzzy Connection” caps off a big year for Shag Rock, who played BIGSOUND, gigged along the East Coast with the release of their last single “Double Life,” and found themselves supporting The Rubens and Tia Gostelow. With tracks like these under their belt, expect more big things from this Brisbane band.

Shag Rock Plays Local Shows Ahead of US Adventures

I’m not sure there’s an Aussier band name than Shag Rock. This Queensland band creates the kind of music you might expect from the Sunshine State. There’s a great beach rock feel to their stuff which helps cut through that lingering wintery gloom. You can hear those summery vibes coming through in the current single “Loosen Up,” lifted from Shag Rock’s current album Barefoot.

The band has developed a great sound under the mentorship of Powderfinger guitarist Ian Haug and they’ve been sharing it with music lovers along the East Coast.

See Shag Rock while you can guys. They’re jetting off to New York to perform at the Mondo Festival in early October, where no doubt they’ll catch the attention of the right people and these little pub gigs will become a thing of the past!
