Shannon Noll’s Not Too Macho for Moisturiser

He might be a boy from the bush but Shannon Noll is really a metrosexual at heart. Nollsy’s just been named as the face of male grooming range Beauty Mate.

The local range includes pepperminty face wash, a shaving gel, an SPF-enhanced moisturiser, and hair care products.

Rough and ready Shannon says he doesn’t have an extensive beauty routine, but he’s owned up to using a moisturiser with SPF.

“Working in the sun all the time [as a farmer] you get burnt pretty quick. I know quite a few blokes with pretty crusty ears,” he said. “You have to take care of that.”

Shannon also likes to use a cleanser as they lift his whiskers for a nice close shave. But the man does have his limits.

“I’m not too into eye creams and stuff,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Beauty Mate takes their responsibility of looking after men seriously, pledging to donate 10% from the sale of their hair care products to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Shannon Noll’s a Busy Bee

After wrapping up a massive 50-date tour, no one would blame Shannon Noll if he wanted to sleep for a few months. But that’s not our Nollsy. The hardest working man in the industry will soon travel to Europe and the United States before returning to home soil for some regional shows!

Shannon’s visit to the United States hopes to inspire some brand new songs. Shannon’s already collaborated with Richie Sambora and Richard Marx, so I’m really curious who he’ll work with this time!

Then it’s off to the United Kingdom for some promotional performances. They’ll include a massive unplugged show at The Borderline in London on March 3. Not long after this Sony Music UK and Ireland plan to release “Shine” to local radio. Better late than never, right? The record company will also release Shannon’s greatest hits album on May 4.

Shannon will be back in March when he’ll kick off his regional tour on the Gold Coast. After that it’s back to Europe where he’ll reprise his role as Parson Nathaniel in The War of the Worlds in 18 arena shows. Wow – I’m tired just thinking about it!

Here are the latest Shannon Noll dates! Tickets are on sale from the venues on December 15.

22 March 2009 – Surfers Paradise Tavern, Gold Coast
1 April 2009 – Portland Civic Centre, Portland
2 April 2009 – Regent Multiplex, Ballarat

Next Stop the World for Nollsy

Shannon Noll is one step closer to global nomination after scoring a part in the international arena spectacular War of the Worlds.

Nollsy will reprise the role of Parson Nathaniel he played in the Australian production last year. This time around he’ll play arenas in the United Kingdom before heading around Europe and then to the United States.

The role couldn’t be better timing from the Australian Idol graduate. He just scored a European deal with Sony BMG which will see them release a hybrid of his Australian albums throughout the continent.

The opportunities are coming thick and fast, but Shannon is under no illusions.

“I know how tough it’s going to be,” he told The Sunday Telegraph. “I’m not under any false pretence about how hard the international music scene is, but I’m going to give it a crack. I’m going to grab the bull by the horns and go for it.”

Onya Nollsy!

Shannon Noll Tells His Story So Far

Some might argue that releasing a greatest hits album after four years in the business is probably a little premature. But not Sony BMG, who figure they might as well repackage Shannon Noll’s best bits for those people who quite like to listen to him on the radio but never actually bought a CD.

Of course there’ll be something for the real fans too, who can look forward to five new tracks including the upcoming radio single, “Summertime.”

Personally I think you need a greater body of work than three albums to consider a greatest hits package, but Shannon thinks it’s a brilliant idea.

“It was only once we started talking about the idea that it sank in how many singles there’s been, from ‘What About Me’ right through to ‘Loud’ and ‘In Pieces’,” he said in a statement.

“All these songs mean so much to me and showcase a journey that I’ve been through with my songwriting and recording, my career in general. It’s great to have the new songs on the album, as they are just a taste of what we’ve got planned for next year!”

Shannon Noll’s Shock Drugs Confession

Yesterday Shannon Noll came clean about his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Shannon told The Sunday Telegraph that he turned to drink and drugs after the death of his father Neil seven years ago.

“You can live well, do everything right, and still be killed,” he said. “So I thought I’d have a crack at everything. I didn’t let myself think about him [his father] when I was smashed. Consequently, I found myself getting smashed a lot.”

Shannon said his children Cody, Blake, and Sienna, gave him the motivation to beat his demons.

“I got to a stage where I had to own up to it. I’d turned into a zombie on the lounge. I wasn’t doing anything useful.”

Shannon didn’t go into detail about his vices, but did admit to using marijuana heavily and enjoying a beer.

Shannon’s going to be slammed for his mistakes because he’s a role model, and I can see the logic there. Like it or not, celebrities are placed on pedestals and their behaviour does influence other people. But I think going public about his habits is gutsy move. It takes a big man to admit they’ve done the wrong thing. And who knows? Maybe his talk about change will motivate someone else to clean up their act.

Shannon Noll vs Wil Anderson

The bitter verbal sparring between Wil Anderson and Shannon Noll appears to be on again!

Wil Anderson’s always loved picking on Shannon, but when Wil made some jokes about Shannon’s late father things went a little bit too far. That’s when Shannon challenged Wil to a boxing match, which Wil politely declined.

Now this was two years ago, so you’d expect all parties would have moved on. But during Shannon’s appearance on 60 Minutes last Sunday night he called Wil “weak, another man’s bootstrap.”

Wil did his best to get Shannon on his MMM radio show on Monday. When those plans didn’t pan out, Wil challenged Shannon to put up or shut up.

“It was one little joke a long time ago and I did say sorry. Does he need to hit me? I’m happy for him to hit me – if it will stop him banging on,” Wil said.

As a regular viewer of The Glasshouse, I hardly think there was one little joke. But it all makes me wonder, will anyone hit anyone here? My money’s on Shannon if the pair end up stepping inside a ring!

Shannon Noll’s Acting Aspirations

We all knew Shannon Noll was chasing success in America, but it seems music isn’t the only thing on his mind.

Shannon has an acting agent in the States and he’s working hard to hone his technique.

“I am pretty close to crying on cue but haven’t managed it just yet,” he told The Courier Mail. “And learning lines is another thing I need to look at. I’ve always wondered how actors do that.”

Next month Shannon’s heading to the US to meet with his agent Paul Santana, and after that, who knows?

“It would be nice to get a good character role in a TV show or something like that. But it’s all in the fairly early stages at the moment,” he said. “I’ll just go over and see what happens.”

Aussies are hot property in Hollywood now, so he might just crack the big time

Sorry Shannon Regrets Drunken Show

Shannon Noll’s been left red-faced after he drunkenly slurred his way through the headlining spot on the CMC Rocks The Snowys festival last weekend.

According to The Daily Telegraph, many people booed the Australian Idol runner-up, while others left before his set was over.

“It was so appallingly bad it wasn’t funny,” one punter told the tabloid. “He was virtually incoherent but couldn’t stop rambling and raving on about how proud he was to be a country boy – he just wasn’t making any sense.

“In the end people started booing and yelling out ‘just sing’ because he was making such a fool of himself.”

Shannon issued a public statement yesterday apologising to his fans, his band, and the festival’s organisers.

“There is nothing more important to me than performing live, and I have always prided myself on giving 100% percent to my fans. Last Saturday night I let everybody down and I am sincerely sorry,” he said.

“When I begin my national tour in June I look forward to proving to the Australian public why they have been justified in supporting me over the last four years.”

I’ve got to admit, I’m in two minds about this one. We’ve all had nights where we’ve drunk too much and done stupid things, but most of us don’t drink to excess before we have to stand up in front of a bunch of people. That’s just dumb. But it does take a big man to apologise for his mistakes, so I’ve got to give him credit for that. It probably won’t be enough for the casual punters who had to witness his drunken display, but it at least might be enough to earn back the respect of the fans.

Shannon Noll @ Deep Rock Drive – 19 January 2008

Last night I watched Shannon Noll doing his thing in Las Vegas courtesy of Deep Rock Drive. This cool new website allows people anywhere in the world to experience live music from the comfort of their own homes.

I must admit, I was a little nervous about how my poor Broadband 1 connection would cope with the show but the technology was flawless. It’s like being at your local venue, with a few added extras. I was offered four different camera angles, allowing me to perve on the sexy scarf-wearing guitarist or watch the sort of dynamic footage seen on concert DVDs. The show is also completely interactive, allowing fans to vote for the songs they want to hear from the setlist provided.

I loved this feature, although it frustrated me for the first few songs. I was keen to hear “Shine,” but the tracks from Turn It Up proved popular with fans. He kicked off with the rocking “Everybody Needs a Little Help” before slowing things down a little with “Walls.”

I was so impressed by Shannon’s energy. It was 1 am in the US when the concert began, but if he was fatigued he didn’t let it show. This was the second of Shannon’s Deep Rock Drive gigs, but he seemed determined to give everything to the largely Australian crowd. He happily answered questions about everything the internet viewers wanted to know, from the success of his American shows to the fate of his flavour saver.

A stripped-down version of “What about Me?” was a highlight, followed by my song “Shine.” From there I seemed to be in tune with the rest of the viewing audience, as the set followed my own requests. The vitality of “Shine” was matched by the raw emotion of the ballads “In Pieces,” and “Now I Run.”

I couldn’t help laughing as Shannon played the final song from the set list, “Loud,” and another check box appeared on the screen with one word: Encore. Of course I’d have to click it. It seems like the rest of the virtual crowd did too, because we were then treated to “Lonely” and “Lift.”

Watching Shannon Noll there in America as I sat in Australia, I felt a great sense of pride. He’s come a long way since I first saw him as a slightly nervous rocker on Australian Idol. He’s become such a natural and powerful performer, and an accomplished songwriter. It’s only a matter of time before the United States and the rest of the world realises how talented he is.

Aussies Set To Wow America

David Campbell, Eskimo Joe, and Shannon Noll will take part in Australia Plays Broadway next month, a celebration of Aussie talent.

The concert extravaganza will showcase the diversity of Australian performers, with the worlds of theatre, opera, dance, symphony, rock, and cabaret all represented.

Caroline O’Connor, Christine Anu, Richard Walley, Raymond Crowe, Penbroke Orchestra, Lisa Moore, and the Australian Dance Theater will also take the stage.

Americans won’t know most of these artists, but with tickets selling from just $50 it’s worth taking a chance on some Aussie culture. Australia Plays Broadway will hit Jazz at Lincoln Centre’s Rose Theatre on January 22.
