The Studio in the City Becomes Homesurgery Recordings

Since its inception in 2007, The Studio in the City has played host to some of the country’s finest musicians, engineers, and producers. The Brunswick studio helmed by celebrated producer and Shihad member Tom Larkin has had a hand in the success of some of the nation’s most acclaimed albums including releases from Calling All Cars, The Getaway Plan, Young and the Restless, and Villainy. While there’s a touch of nostalgia in the air, the studio is also looking forward with a brand new name, Homesurgery Recordings.

“I founded the studios in 2007 when I happened upon a project studio for long term rent – I moved a ramshackle amount of equipment in there and began work straight away on the debut album for a band called Young & Restless,” Tom explained. “That record went on to win a J award for Unearthed Album Of The Year.”

This new chapter is sure to be a bright one for Homesurgery Recordings, which has recently upgraded its API 1608 console. Despite the new technology and name, Homesurgery Recordings remains committed to helping artists realise their creative vision in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

The shows will no doubt include plenty of cuts from the debut album as well as more recent tracks that remind us Shihad are much more than a nostalgia band. Special guests The Grenadiers will join the band on the road.

The Snowdroppers Still Rocking

The Snowdroppers are back with a brand new single, a shiny new contract, and an album on the way.

The Sydney based blues rockers just signed up to ABC Music’s hot new label FOUR | FOUR. This home of left-of-centre acts proved the perfect launchpad for The Snowdroppers’ new single “White Dress.”

The song shows the way the band’s sound has evolved since they released their debut album Too Late to Pray in 2009. Their Americana and swamp leanings have been tempered somewhat, but it’s got all the swagger and blues sensibility we loved the first time around.

“White Dress” is our first taste of The Snowdropper’s sophomore album Moving Out of Eden, which will hit stores in early 2013. In the meantime you can catch The Snowdroppers supporting Kiwi rock stalwarts Shihad at the following shows.

6 September 2012 – The Hi Fi, Melbourne
7 September 2012 – The Metro, Sydney
8 September 2012 – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane

Shihad Play Greatest Hits Shows

Fresh from their slot at Splendour in the Grass, Shihad are returning to Australia to play their greatest hits.

This tour has been some time coming for fans. Shihad released their double greatest hits album The Meanest Hits in New Zealand last year and played shows to support it around the country. Now finally it’s Australia’s turn. The Meanest Hits will hit Australian stores later this month, with the new single “Right Outta Nowhere” added as a sweetener.

The Meanest shows will see Shihad presenting two sides of their personality over 90 minutes. In the first half they’ll embrace their pub roots and in the second they’ll celebrate the stadium rock act they’ve become.

See Shihad this September at the following shows:

6 September 2012 – The Hi-Fi, Melbourne
7 September 2012 – The Metro, Sydney
8 September 2012 – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane
