The Stamps Release Fire Single, “Slow Burn”

Meet your new indie-pop obsession, The Stamps. Originally beginning as a folk trio, Scarlett Graham, Rubina Bertolini, and Sofia Hourani showcase a more upbeat sound with their latest single “Slow Burn.” This super catchy song showcases their sublime harmonies and nostalgic sound.

Scarlett, who was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, explained the song’s inspiration, noting “I was missing the younger aspect of myself that existed in Canada; the carefreeness of being a child, and the many friends I left behind. One childhood friend of mine was on my mind after we caught up on Facetime. After weeks of missing each other’s phone calls, leaving ‘life update’ voice notes, we were finally able to find moments to connect. It was written when I was feeling frustrated about how difficult it is to keep in touch and the pride I can often have to not be the first one to call. I am guilty of how often I never want to be the ‘needy’ one.”

Scarlett met her fellow Stamps as an exchange student at a Walyalup/Fremantle high school. They formed an immediate bond and remained close even once Scarlett returned home, sending letters via snail mail. After years apart, they decided to start together afresh in Naarm/Melbourne. Their band name celebrates the way they stayed in contact despite their physical distance.

The Stamps will next play Hepburn Mineral Springs as part of Hepburn Shire Council’s free Sunset in the Springs concert series. Catch them alongside Dayfever and Sasha Taylor on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Clio Releases Stunning Solo Single, “Slow Burn”

Clio is a familiar face for music fans, part of the RocKwiz band and playing with local musical royalty including Angus and Julia Stone, Deborah Conway, Tim Rogers, Killing Heidi, and heaps more. However, she’s much more than simply one of the country’s most in-demand session pianist. She’s also an impressive solo artist. Her latest single “Slow Burn” is a testament to her talent.

Clio says the song was “Written from the perspective of a close friend who was struggling to let go. Knowing that forgiveness and acceptance takes time is one thing, it’s the waiting that kills us. For me it also coincided with a different sort of waiting, or my unwillingness to wait for that matter. Either way, life’s too short! I co-produced this with Lawrence Folvig (Ainslie Wills), a collaboration I’m very excited about. The palate of sounds takes my music in a new direction, with brooding synths and layered guitars. Of course it wouldn’t be a Clio piece without a dashing display of vocal harmonies too!”

The name of the song is somewhat apt, because it really crept up on me. I thought it was beautiful at first, but with every subsequent listen I appreciated “Slow Burn” just a little more. Take a listen and let it work its magic on you!

The Medics Release Stomach Turning Single Clip

The Medics have me rocking out again with their latest single “Slow Burn.” Despite its name, the song is instantly accessible with big chords and a scorching bass line. I’m not so keen on the music video though. I’m pretty sure it’ll turn even the strongest of stomachs. If you don’t mind images of ants crawling over skin and cuticles being pulled, the video might just be for you. Don’t say you weren’t warned!
