Somber Hills Releases Newest Banger, “Some Say”

Prolific Eora/Sydney-based pop-punk artist Somber Hills is back with his latest anthem, “Some Say.” It takes me right back to the early ‘00s with its infectious riff and angsty but uplifting lyrics about picking yourself up and moving forward after being knocked down for the umpteenth time.

“When I wrote this record, the producer and I were playing a lot of Tony Hawks Underground 2. We got to the studio and I said something along the lines of ‘Let’s make a soundtrack for Tony Hawks’, Somber Hills said. “The song came together in a few hours and instantly felt reminiscent of Sum41, The Pixies, and Nirvana.”

“Some Say” comes from Somber Hills’ second project for the year, where’s my guitar?, which drops on November 24. That night Somber Hills will play the Nu Wave event at Bad Decisions Bar in Ngár-go/Fitzroy. Tickets are on sale now from Eventbrite.

Somber Hills & Between You & Me Team Up on “Sometimes (My Brain Doesn’t Work)”

Between You & Me are dropping some of the best collaborations around right now. Fresh from teaming up with BESTIES on “two wrongs,” they’ve just dropped a new track with Somber Hills called “Sometimes (My Brain Doesn’t Work).” It’s got a great vibe, but make sure you tap in to the lyrics which explore the challenges Somber Hills faces living with ADHD.

“I’m a dopamine missing thrill seeking degen that has learned to live with a brain that’s always searching for stimulus. This song is accepting who you are and all you’ve done with a note to self, ‘I will continue to grow,’” Somber Hills explained. “It hurts to accept the truth about yourself, it hurts to accept that things could’ve been different but you can’t start your next step until you accept those things. That’s what happened while this track was in the making.”

This is just the first of a bunch of new singles Somber Hills plans to release in the coming months as part of a potential larger body of work. I hear he’s also planning plenty of shows to support all this new music, so make sure you’re following him on the socials for all the news of those gigs as soon as they’re announced.

Somber Hills Releases Feelgood New Single “YDS”

Aotearoa/New Zealand-born, Eora/Sydney-based artist Somber Hills is destined for big things. He’s just dropped his upbeat new single “YDS,” which celebrates being young, dumb, and stupid. If this doesn’t put a spring in your step today, I don’t know what will.

“Time moves so fast and the moments we love and cherish escape us so quick,” Somber Hills said. “Our motives and goals may stay the same but time will not wait, and if in a year you haven’t done enough to get where you’re trying to go, it’s gone, you’ll never get the time back. I had a painful year, but in the pain there’s learning and I learned that to truly enjoy what I’m doing I have to embrace who I am and not focus on what someone else thinks.”

Fresh from supporting Seth Sentry here in Oz, Somber Hills will play two shows in England with Jonny Craig next month. If you’re there, you can catch these awesome gigs at Bournemouth Live – Bear’s Bar & Venue on May 14 and The Underworld Camden on May 15.
