Kobie Dee and Stan Walker Team Up For “Father’s Eyes”

Gomeroi man Kobie Dee channels the frustrations and lessons learnt from his childhood into his powerful new single “Father’s Eyes.” Featuring former Australian Idol champ Stan Walker, the lyrics touch on breaking familiar cycles, creating generational change, and beating the system. It’s hard-hitting, but ultimately so uplifting.

Kobie and Stan traveled to unceded Bidjigal Lane for the video, directed by Kieran Satour of GARUWA, who is a Gurindji, Pertame Arrernte, and Worimi man.

“Working with Kobie and Stan on this clip was such a blessing,” Keiran said. “This special song, deeply grounded in their own experiences as Indigenous fathers and sons, is about highlighting the strength and resilience of all the families out there striving to break cycles.”

“It was really important to me to work with someone I trust and have a Creative Director like Kieran lead this project and help apply a cultural lens and make sure both our Aboriginal and Māori cultures were represented appropriately and in a strong, beautiful way,” Kobie added. “It was a great collaboration and I feel everyone that was involved really resonated with what the track was about and really captured the vision for the video clip.”

“Father’s Eyes” is Kobie’s first solo release since he dropped “Basics” in 2022. Way to come back to the game!

Stan Walker Headlines New Ground Festival

Musicians from around the world will take over Griffith University’s Meadowbrook Campus on April 30 for the New Ground Festival. The event is designed to celebrate diversity, so it’s only fitting that it’ll take place in Logan, one of Queensland’s most culturally rich cities.

There are more artists to be announced, but already the bill is shaping up to be something special. Acts already announced include reigning Australian Idol Stan Walker, Sudanese singer Ajak Kwai, Sydney reggae act V Tribe, the Silk Girls Ensemble from China, and the Carribean’s Pantastic Steel Band. The musicians will be joined by dance crews, and an array of multicultural foods, arts, and crafts.

Tickets are on sale now through the New Ground Festival website, the Logan PCYC, and other venues around the city.

Stan Walker Spruiks New Album at Instores

It’s been a bit quiet on the Stan Walker front, but the reigning Australian Idol is almost ready to unleash his first album of original material. From the Inside Out hits record stores around Australia and New Zealand tomorrow.

Stan’s taken his time on this release, some nine months since winning the reality TV show title, and it seems that approach has paid off.

“I had a firm goal about what I wanted to do and what sort of sound I wanted to create, so the people that came along either helped me achieve what I wanted, or they weren’t really suitable for this record,” he explained in a press release. “In the end I was able to inject every part of me into the songs for this album, and it was an awesome experience working with some very talented people.”

Those people include Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, Stuart Crichton (Kylie Minogue, Sugababes), Pixie Lott, and Kiwi rapper Young Sid. It was then given a few final tweaks from Grammy Award winning mixers Phil Tan (Usher, Rihanna) and Craig Bauer (Kanye West).

Stan will take his album to the people with a series of instore appearances at shopping centres around the country. If you can’t make it to one of these events you can chat to Stan live via his Facebook page from 11 am to noon on Monday August 23.

Stan Walker Releases Great New Song, “Unbroken”

I didn’t really care for Stan Walker’s debut single “Black Box,” but his follow up “Unbroken” is great stuff.

Although once you look at the songwriting credits, it’s no surprise. Ryan Tedder knows how to craft a hit, from his work with Leona Lewis, Beyonce, and Jordin Sparks to material for his own band One Republic.

The track tells the story of strength and survival, something Stan knows about all too well. While his personal struggles were documented during his Australian Idol journey, he also came face to face with human tragedy on a recent visit to Haiti.

“Unbroken” will feature on Stan Walker’s first album of original material, due for release later this year.
