Sweet Talk Drop “Miller’s Bay” Ahead of Album Release and Red Clay Strays Tour

We’ll get to hear their debut album Switch On next week, but Sweet Talk are giving us one more tasty preview before it drops. They’ve just released their soulful new single “Miller’s Bay,” and I can definitely understand why it’s a fan favourite.

“Miller’s Bay” was produced by celebrated Americana artist and producer Robert Ellis and engineered by Trina Shoemaker, who you may know from her work with Brandi Carlile and Emmylou Harris. Guest vocals from American soul duo Uncle Roy & Spice provide the extra special sauce.

Switch On will hit all the streaming services on May 23, but if you’re old-school you can preorder a limited edition, numbered orange and yellow vinyl pressing here. You know you want to! Sweet Talk are about to hit the road with American country-roots act The Red Clay Strays, so if you’re heading to one of these shows make sure you don’t miss their set. Discover Why Everyone’s Talking About Sweet Talk

Kasey Chambers calls Naarm/Melbourne-based six-piece Sweet Talk her “new favourite band” while Whitlams’ frontman Tim Freedman said “Sweet Talk was an absolute stand out at the two festivals in the last year where I caught them, Tamworth and Bluesfest.” While industry movers and shakers are just discovering them, we’ve been on the Sweet Talk train since they released “Warm Love” in 2023. Just before the album drops, Sweet Talk will kick off a tour supporting Americana superstars Red Clay Strays. They’ll also play Bluesfest and some headlining shows, so there are plenty of opportunities to catch them doing what they do best in the coming months.

Have a Taste of Sweet Talk’s “Real Good Cookin'”

After a successful run of shows with Texas’ own Charlie Crockett and appearances at Riverboats Music Festival and Bluesfest, Naarm/Melbourne six-piece Sweet Talk headed back to the studio. The result is their delicious new single “Real Good Cookin’”. It might be brand new to us, but it’s actually the first song created for this project.

“I remember writing the riff when Dave and I lived together in Fitzroy many moons ago,” explained guitarist Soren Walker. “I was listening to a lot of Skynard at the time the idea of a band was only beginning to germinate, but when Dave and I started fleshing this track out, we knew we were onto something hot.”

“We were actually calling it ‘Southern Fried Chicken’ for the first little while, and it was the first riff we started working on as a song before Sweet Talk was a fully formed idea,” added fellow guitarist Dave Turner.

Sweet Talk are building a reputation as one of the best acts on the live circuit. Whitlams’ frontman Tim Freedman said they were an “absolute stand out” at Tamworth and Bluesfest, noting their set was “pure musical lift off with charisma and earthy grunt.” So make sure you see them at one of their upcoming shows, including dates with Tim’s Black Stump Duo, if you possibly can.

6 September 2024 – Echuca Paramount Theatre, Yorta Yorta Country/Echuca (with Black Stump Duo)

Sweet Talk Drop Vintage Banger, “Warm Love”

The Teskey Brothers pipped them for the title at the recent 2023 National Live Music Awards, but Sweet Talk might just be the best blues and roots act that you haven’t heard of. Their latest single “Warm Love” shows why they weren’t just making up the numbers in that coveted category. It’s got so much swag. This is the kind of music people just aren’t making enough of any more.

“It’s got a little more rock n roll steez about it,” admitted Sweet Talk’s frontman Tane Walker, of the band’s adventurous new sound. “We took what we normally do, then dirtied up the tones and tuned our instruments down half a step,” added bass player James Harding.

“Warm Love is a belter to play live!” added guitarist Soren Walker. “That’s the litmus test we need to vet songs for the studio, if the punters come alive, then it deserves a shot on record and this immediately ticked that box.”

You can see how good this song is live at one of Sweet Talk’s upcoming shows:
