Texas Tea Releases Adults’ Only Alphabet Song

Brisbane alt-country outfit Texas Tea treats us to “The Alphabet Song”, the third single from last year’s album “Sad Summer Hits”.

This is a long way from the alphabet song we were all taught as kids. There might be cute puppets in the clip, but you’ll want to cover your own children’s ears if they’re around. It’s a delightfully bitter break-up song that links the letters to some fairly choice words.

With an east coast tour in the works and a European leg not too far behind that, it seems we’ll be seeing a lot more of Texas Tea in the coming months.

Texas Tea Drop Album Number Three

Exciting Queensland folk-country duo Texas Tea will release their eagerly awaited third record Sad Summer Hits tomorrow. The retro fans will release the album, which features the current single “Lily,” in both CD and vinyl formats.

Sad Summer Hits was recorded with legendary producer Lachlan “Magoo” Goold in his beloved Applewood Studios, a converted church nestled in the Queensland countryside. The disc charts the journey of a band keen to develop their sound without completely letting go of the familiar. Benjamin P. Dougherty and Kate Jacobsen enlisted a rhythm section for the first time, and presented their usual dark themes with a little more light.

“All-in-all, I think we’ve been able to take the vintage county pop idea and conceptualise it a little further,” Kate explained. “With our tongues placed firmly in our cheeks, it’s a combination of retro country, blues and 50s pop, all with the typical Texas Tea sparkle dust. Although we take a lot of influence from American music, I think we have always been able to Australianise and contextualise our music.”

Texas Tea will play the following shows to celebrate the release of Sad Summer Hits.

18 October 2012 – Brisbane Hotel, Hobart
19 October 2012 – Old Bar, Melbourne
21 October 2012 – Grace Emily, Adelaide
26 October 2012 – The Zoo, Brisbane
27 October 2012 – The Loft, Gold Coast
28 October 2012 – Spotted Cow, Toowoomba (Afternoon Show)
3 November 2012 – The Newsagency, Sydney (BYO Show)

Texas Tea Go Retro with New Single

Indie folk act Texas Tea are taking us back to the fun days of the fifties with their new single “Heart Says Yes (Head Says No).” It sounds like it was made by a slick girl group from Motown rather than a band from Brisbane, but I love it.

The song’s available digitally today, but if you can hold out I suggest buying the cassingle released on August 13. I’m sure my fellow children of the ’80s are rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect! This retro throwback features an exclusive B-side which won’t appear on any other release, just like the old days!

“Heart Says Yes (Head Says No)” is our latest taste of Texas Tea’s third album Sad Summer Hits, which is scheduled to hit stores in October. Texas Tea will launch the single with two free hometown shows on August 17. Catch them playing as a duo at Jet Black Cat Records at 6:30 pm, or in full band mode at the Black Bear Lodge from 8 pm.
