James Reyne Headlines KickAss Music & Camping Festival

I know it’s hard to think about camping with winter’s chill in the air, but spring will be here before you know it. And what better way to celebrate the season than pitching a tent in the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Country/Sunshine Coast Hinterland for the second annual KickAss Music & Camping Festival.

Back bigger and better in 2023, the two-day event will feature performances from James Reyne, The Beautiful Girls, Kingswood, Dragon, Ash Grunwald, GANGgajang, and heaps more.

“We are overjoyed to be continuing our journey and hosting our second music and camping festival,” confirmed KickAss manager, Josh Allen. “Last year was just a dip in the ocean compared to what we have planned this time around. We can’t wait to share this lineup with you and believe those who love great music and the great outdoors will absolutely love this festival.”

The KickAss Festival hits Kenilworth Showgrounds on September 8 and 9. It’s also a family-friendly event, so bring the kids and enjoy connecting over superb local music in the great outdoors. One- and two-day festival passes, including VIP and premium tickets, are available now from Oztix.

The Beautiful Girls Spread Good Vibes with “Dancehall Days”

It’s Friday! The weekend is so close you can almost taste it, along with that beer you’re bound to treat yourself with once you knock off this afternoon. So I figured I’d spread more good vibes with “Dancehall Days,” the latest single from The Beautiful Girls and the title track from their recently released album. It’s not a cover of the Wang Chung song, but it’s every bit as fun. You’re welcome!

Crowdfunding Helps The Beautiful Girls Release Comeback Album

It seems crowdfunding can do anything these days, even bring a band back from a long hiatus. Thanks to the generosity of their fans, The Beautiful Girls are preparing to release their first album since 2010.

The crowdfunded Dancehall Days will hit stores on October 3. Frontman Mat McHugh said he began writing it intended for it to be a solo release, but it soon became clear that he needed to put the band back together.

“When I stood back from them I was able to see that I was being steered into a particular direction. They all sounded like ‘The Beautiful Girls’. It’s hard to explain it but I know it when I hear it,” Mat insists. “Spooky, dubby, digital dancehall tinged, rootsy, punky, reggae music mashed up with some mellow acoustic sea songs. In some ways it’s about reclaiming my musical identity”.

The Beautiful Girls will thank fans for their generosity with shows this October and November. They’re a great opportunity for music lovers to hear the new songs in the live arena as well as plenty of old favourites.

Kid Mac Music Video Goes Viral

Rapper Kid Mac has become an unlikely YouTube star with the release of his new music video for the single “Hear You Calling.” The song, which effortlessly blends urban influences and straight up rock, sees Kid Mac working with Mat McHugh from the Beautiful Girls.

The video has clocked up more than 200, 000 views over the last couple of days, something which is virtually unheard of for an independent artist. Then again, most indie acts don’t have Taj Burrows, Mick Fanning, and Russell Crowe singing their praises!

Now if only I had a pair of old school 3D glasses around!

The Beautiful Girls Kick Off East Coast Tour

Mat McHugh has just returned to Oz after touring the United States solo with the John Butler Trio, and he’s wasted no time getting back together with his Beautiful Girls band mates.

The band is kicking off a new tour in Sydney tonight to promote their new song “My Mind is an Echo Chamber.” The track is the third single lifted from The Beautiful Girls’ fourth album Spooks.

The Beautiful Girls Release New Album in America

After impressing fans and critics in Australia, indie trio The Beautiful Girls are set to do the same in the United States. The band will release their latest album, Ziggurats, in America on September 18.

The Beautiful Girls have created a truly unique sound, through their love of jazz, reggae, rock, and country. Renowned for their mellow tones, Ziggurats introduces a heavier, electric element to their signature sound.

Rolling Stone called Ziggurats “a great leap forward” for the band, while The Daily Telegraph said it was a “stellar album, which is impossible to take off the stereo.”

See what The Beautiful Girls are about by watching the film clip for their latest single, “I Thought About You,” below.

Americans: if you’re revved by what you’ve heard, be sure to check out Ziggurats when it hits stores in September.
