The Griswolds Release Live Digital Boat Cruise EP

Last November, The Griswolds took a boat cruise around Sydney Harbour with some lucky fans and some of their best music industry pals including Pepa Knight of Jinja Safari, Jake Stone of Bluejuice, Nick McKenzie of Deep Sea Arcade, and Castlecomer. If you couldn’t be there, good news. The band’s released an EP, The Good Ship, capturing all of the craziness and killer tunes.

Listening to these live songs is the perfect primer for The Griswolds upcoming North American tour supporting Walk the Moon. If you’re Stateside, make sure you don’t miss these Aussie juggernauts when they visit a town near you.

The Good Ship Plays Shows to Support The Seven Seas

With Kat Cooke swapping her trumpet for a microphone, The Good Ship are preparing to launch their recently released third studio album, The Seven Seas.

What I love most about this Brisbane band is that they do it their way. No one else is singing sea shanties like the lead single “World Spin Round,” a dark number which tells of a boy looking to exact revenge upon the sea for taking his father and brother. More than just a gimmick, the eight-piece’s unique musical outlook is backed up by plenty of talent.

The Seven Seas was inspired by their sell-out hybrid musical theatre show, so it’s going to be best experienced on the stage. Fans can do just that when The Good Ship play the following shows along Australia’s East Coast.

15 November 2013 – The Powerhouse Theatre, Brisbane (All Ages)
7 December 2013 – Spectrum, Sydney
8 December 2013 – The Toff in Town, Melbourne
13 December – Festival of the Sun, Port Macquarie

The Good Ship Announce Album Tour

A few months after they teased us with the lead single “Seven Seas,” The Good Ship are preparing to unleash their grandly titled second album O’ Exquisite Corpse.

The follow-up to 2010’s Avast! Wretched Sea features the dark beauty and debauched lyrics we’ve come to expect from Queensland’s pirate rockers.

The Good Ship will celebrate the album’s July release with an East Coast tour. Catch this quirky Aussie act at the following shows.

29 June 2012 – Sol Bar, Maroochydore
6 July 2012 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
14 July 2012 – The Zoo, Brisbane
3 August 2012 – Great Northern, Newcastle
4 August 2012 – Good God Small Club, Sydney
11 August 2012 – The Rails, Byron Bay (Free)
12 August 2012 – Nimbin Hotel, Nimbin (Free)

The Good Ship Return with “Seven Seas”

The Good Ship wowed me with the unique pirate rock of their debut album Avast! Wretched Sea. Now two years later they’re back with a brand new batch of music.

“Seven Seas” is the first single to come from the Brisbane’s band’s second album, which will finally hit stores in the middle of the year. It gets inside the head of a sea loving man serving time for murder and craving his beloved ocean.

To make amends for the extended delay in The Good Ship goodness, the band’s giving away the single, and a cover of Ween’s “Object,” through their website. And they’re also hitting the East Coast for a long awaited tour. Here are all the places you can catch them singing their modern sea shanties in the coming months.

13 April 2012 – The Vanguard, Sydney
14 April 2012 – The Grace Darling, Melbourne
20 April 2012 – Beetle Bar, Brisbane
28 April 2012 – Royal Mail Hotel, Goodna
3 May 2012 – Sol Bar, Maroochydore

The Good Ship Tour Double A-Side Single

If celebrating the oft forgotten musical genre of pirate-rock wasn’t enough to set themselves apart, The Good Ship have decided to make an impact with a big double single. The band is celebrating the release of the double A-sider “Bury Me/I Can Make Her Laugh” with an Aussie tour.

If you love a good sea shanty with questionable lyrics, this is your kind of tour. If you’re still not convinced, feast your eyes on this awesome animated music video for “Bury Me.” It’s probably better that I show you this than the one for “I Can Make Her Laugh” with the bondage mistresses!

You can catch those lovable rogues from The Good Ship at the following shows.

All Aboard The Good Ship

I don’t hear a lot of music describing itself as porno-pirate-folk-rock, but there couldn’t be a better description for Brisbane act The Good Ship.

Just as naughty as captain Jack Sparrow but not as camp, the band have just released their beautifully bawdy debut Avast! Wretched Sea. The single “These Are a Few of My Favourite Flings” is just a taste of the original opus.

To celebrate the single release, the motley crew will travel up and down the East Coast. If you love pirates, archaic instruments, and a damn good time make sure you catch The Good Ship at one of the following shows.

29 October 2010 – “Shiver Me Pumpkins” Halloween Show @ The Troubadour, Brisbane
30 & 31 October 2010 – Nimbin Hotel, Nimbin
5 November 2010 – The Excelsior Hotel, Surry Hills
