The Jensens Drop “Paper Walls” Single Ahead of Queensland Shows

Mondays aren’t easy, but The Jensens’ new single “Paper Walls” has given me the lift I need to get through the day. I just love its fuzzy guitars and melodic hooks. Its energetic sound is matched by inspiring lyrics about pulling yourself out of a spiral of self-doubt.

“Paper walls are resolutions without any weight – like sandcastles promises to yourself, washed away by the weekend. Unending internal conversations about doing more, being more, and seeing more, when you realise you’ve once again chosen bad habits over hard work. And who could blame you? But there’s still a desire for self-improvement that doesn’t go away, so you turn your back on your former self, again and again,” explained lead singer Joe White. “It’s not about being hard on yourself, it’s about having faith in a vision of a better version of you.”

The song comes with a fabulous music video created in conjunction with visual artist Unclechronicbone.

“Paper Walls” is our first taste of The Jensens’ new album, Hammer and Blush, which is slated for a May 21 release. Expect to hear a few more songs from the album when The Jensens play a string of shows over the next couple of months.

The Jensens Help You Start Your Week on the Right Note With “Mt Mura”

It’s so hard to fire up on gloomy grey mornings, but The Jensens have helped put the pep in my step today. The Brisbane indie-rockers’ latest track is “Mt. Mura,” a cool track which brings elements of funk and disco into their genre with fantastic results.

These guys know what they’re doing, delivering this genre-bending track with more confidence that an act that hasn’t even released a debut album probably should. That album is coming though. There’s no release date yet, but with killer tracks like “Mt. Mura” on board, Hyacinth Haze should be something special when it finally drops. Hear a sneak peek when The Jensens play Ivey at The Foundry on April 24.

The Jensens Release “Gaff’s Song” Ahead of New EP Launch

I’ve had one of my very rare days where I listened to a whole lot of music and nothing seemed to rev me. I wrote the article about Droplet last week, you see, and I’ve been attempting to find something else worth sharing with you for hours. I was starting to think perhaps I was being too picky. I was starting to worry I might end up letting my standards slip because I was just so keen to share something, anything, with you. But then I heard “Gaff’s Song,” the latest track from The Jensens, and it was like a shining light.

Literally, as it so happens, because this song makes me think of summer road trips down the coast. It’s got a great carefree vibe that I’m really responding too. My local area has been plagued by gloomy weather lately, and this track takes me back to the days that were a bit warmer. While it has a relaxed feel, there’s also a deeper meaning too, as the band explained in the press release.

“It’s about wilfully denying yourself of something instinctual, as well as the magnetism of desire. An internal argument of wanting love, but having no more time you’re prepared to give. It’s about sex being both a vital shared experience and a temporary distraction of a life otherwise lived at existential breaking point. And how pursuing that experience, is to enter a world of sacrifice and convention. It’s about appreciating the fact that your mind has been trained to feed you the notion of significance, by way of the libido, but ultimately questioning the necessity of all of it.”

“Gaff’s Song” comes from The Jensens’ sophomore EP Sexless, which drops on March 31.

The Jensens Ready to Rock with Morning Harvey

The Jensens are loading up the tour bus and preparing to play shows all around the country with good mates Morning Harvey.

While Morning Harvey are the headliners, the tour comes at the perfect time for The Jensens who’ve just released “Fears” and the awesome garage rock song “A New Hope.” This is such good honest rock and roll, I imagine it’s going to go off in the live arena.

The Jensens have earned rave reviews for their shows all around Brisbane, so make sure you turn up early enough at these Morning Harvey gigs to catch their set.

The Jensens Release “Fears”

Brisbane band The Jensens serve up some dark material in an irresistible pop package with their new single “Fears.” It feels so good to listen to that it’s easy to miss the shadows, but really listen to the lyrics and you’ll gain a brand new appreciation for this cleverly layered song.

“Fears was written about the feelings of fear and anxiety I had about life passing me by. This was when I felt like I was doing nothing with my life when living on the coast,” explained The Jensens’ frontman Joseph White. “The song is about how all these things can get to a person and make them feel like they’re drowning in self pity, the only solution is to ‘say goodbye’ and move on to greener pastures, I guess.”

“Fears” is our first taste of the band’s full-length mixtape, which is scheduled for an early 2015 release. What do you think of it?
