Start Your Year Right With The Lulu Raes

I’m not one of these people who believes you can just flick a switch, or toast to a new year, and the world will magically be better. However, I do think that finding the right soundtrack can dramatically impact your mood. So in the interest of starting 2021 with good vibes, hit that play button on The Lulu Raes most recent single, “Not for the Weekend.”

This track is really the perfect summer anthem, with infectious keyboard riffs and a danceable beat. You just see if you can resist tapping your toes along.

“When this song was first being written, it was written as a middle finger to someone who had decided it was time to move on with their life. Eventually, it morphed into self-reflection, and now it’s really a peace offering to that person. Hope you’re doing well,” the band said in the presser.

If you’re in Sydney, you can catch these local legends at Waywards in Newtown on January 23.

The Lulu Raes Release Feelgood New Single, “Can’t Run No More”

After getting the sad news that Dave Matthews Band is the latest act in a long line of cancelled shows for me, I needed a bit of a pick-me-up today. Enter The Lulu Raes with a catchy new single “Can’t Run No More.”

This track has such a fun folky feel to it. If you loved The Lemonheads or The Shins, I think it’ll be right up your alley.

“’Can’t Run No More’ is about loving a person, but not being able to talk about it or fully comprehend the feelings, because the person is just one of those individuals who work so hard, accomplishes everything and seems a cut above regular people,” the band explained.

The Lulu Raes is scheduled to play shows at The Grace Darling in Melbourne on April 17 and the Lansdowne Hotel in Sydney on April 24 at this stage. However, in these crazy times make sure you watch The Lulu Raes Facebook page a little closer to the date to check whether they will go ahead.

The Lulu Raes Tour Sunny Single

Sunshine is in short supply at the moment, but The Lulu Raes are spreading it with their summery new single “Swing Me on a Vine of Sunshine.” This is such simple, feel good stuff. I ended up listening to it three times in a row with a big smile plastered on my face.

The Brisbane band will take the single to the East Coast capitals this winter. Catch The Lulu Raes at the following venues.

26 June 2015 – Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane
3 July 2015 – Shebeen, Melbourne
4 July 2015 – Goodgod Small Club, Sydney

Art of Sleeping Tour Crazy

Art of Sleeping impressed me with their single “Crazy” recently, so I was happy to hear that they’re taking it on the road. The Brisbane band will use upcoming performances at the Falls Festival as a warm-up for an east coast tour which takes in the capitals over summer.

Art of Sleeping will offer a sneak peek at their forthcoming debut album, which hits stores in mid-2015, as well as taking us back to where it all began with gems from the 2012 EP Like a Thief. Sydney’s phenomenal The Lulu Raes will serve as support for the following shows.

23 January 2015 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
24 January 2015 – Newtown Social Club, Sydney
6 February 2015 – Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane

The Lulu Raes Release Year’s Sweetest Vid

We’re not quite to the end of the year, but I don’t think we’ll see a music video that’s more fun that The Lulu Raes’ clip for “Reputation.” The Sydney four-piece take us into a colorful world with dancing lolly musicians, boomboxes, and much more. And they did it all on a budget of $16! Incredible!

The song’s also so damned likable. Just see if you’re not smiling by the end. The band’s not touring at this point, but local fans can check out not one but three hometown shows over the next two months.

12 December 2014 – Waywards (The Bank), Sydney
17 December 2014 – Beach Road Hotel, Sydney
26 December 2014 – Australia Day Concert, The Rocks
