Supergroup Harves Drops Superb Sophomore Single, “The River”

When talents like Matthew Wright (The Getaway Plan frontman) and Samuel K Sproull (Japanese Wallpaper and Montgomery engineer) make music together, you know magic will happen. As duo Harves, their debut single “Do Your Worst” passed me by, but I’m firmly on board their bandwagon now I’ve heard their latest effort “The River.”

This track gave me chills. The layered vocals are so haunting and the groove is just mesmerising. It’s so incredibly cool, with some of the most poetic lyrics I’ve heard in some time.

“It’s a bit of a metaphor about being creatures of habit, good and bad. About not making changes even though you know what you need to do and hoping that one day the answer will present itself,” the duo explained in their press release. “In our case specifically, I guess that answer was to start releasing some songs and let that dictate change.”

If “The River” has hooked you too, rest assured that there’s more where that came from. The lads from Harves have been working on putting the finishing touches on more new material which we can expect to hear later this year.

Reece Mastin On the Comeback Trail With “The River”

I’ve been eagerly awaiting new Reece Mastin material for two years. His last album Suitcase of Stories was one of my favourite releases of 2018. With every release he seems to grow into his sound a little more. That upward trajectory continues with “The River.” Reece wrote the song after drowning his sorrows at a local bar and deciding there was a better, more positive path for him to take.

“I’m in such a good place personally and professionally now,” he explained. “This song is important for me to share as it marks the end of that tough transition from manufactured popstar to independent rocker, where I finally feel my true self.

“I kind of did my career in reverse, starting with a record deal, instant fame and a career that was out of my control, to now being totally independent and responsible for every facet of my career, and I’m loving it!”

This is an epic piece of blues-rock. I’ve listened to it three times in a row, and I’m not sure I’m done. What a positive sign of the new music we can expect from the next Reece Mastin release.

The Lamplights Raise Funds for Fires

We’ve all been touched by the nation’s bushfires in some way, so The Lamplights are bound to strike a chord with their latest single “The River.”

The single came about when the boys from the band were touring Victoria and stumbled across the bushfire devastated region of King Lake. A year after blazes ravaged the town, the lads were shocked by the ruin they still saw. The landscape was black as far as the eye could see. However, The Lamplights saw more than that. They saw a community that refused to give up, one which had such a connection to this place they called home that nothing could drive them away.

It’s only fitting that all proceeds from “The River” will benefit the Warrambungle Shire Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal. No doubt The Lamplights will sell plenty of copies when they tour the single at the following shows.
