Gypsy and The Cat Announce Aussie Splendour Sideshows

Aussie expats Gypsy and The Cat are returning home to play a swag of shows. You can see these Melbourne born Londoners supporting Foals and The Strokes around the country, playing the main stage at Splendour in the Grass, and headlining two just announced sideshows.

If you don’t know Gypsy and The Cat yet you’re in for a real treat. The band combines electro vibes with a splash of folk-pop to create a cruisy, retro soundscape.

These shows will support the release of their debut single “Time to Wander,” and give fans a sneak peek at their album before it hits stores later this year. Around the same time Gypsy and The Cat will be back in Oz to play Parklife, but I’d much rather see them at these more intimate gigs than that massive festival.

This time around, these are the places you can see these up and coming ex-pats!

The Strokes Announce Aussie Tour

The Strokes are winging their way to Australia for a blink-and-you’ll-miss it tour this July.

The rock quintet will play shows in Sydney and Melbourne for the first time since the release of their 2006 album First Impressions of Earth. Something tells me it’s going to be worth the wait. If we’re lucky we’ll also get a sneak peek at album number four which the band are currently recording with Grammy Award-winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Beck).

Of course, after such a long absence we can expect the tickets to sell quickly when they go on sale on April 12. Ticketek will sell tickets for the July 29 performance at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, and Ticketmaster will handle the July 30 show at Melbourne’s Festival Hall.

Julian Casablancas Takes World Tour to Australia

Julian Casablancas is preparing to make his first solo journey Down Under. The lead singer of The Strokes will visit Oz for an East Coast tour this May.

The tour comes on the back of Julian’s acclaimed solo album Phrazes for the Young. He’s taken this album tour to England, Europe, North America, and Japan, so we should expect a pretty polished show!

You can expect these tickets to sell like proverbial hotcakes, so make sure you get yours from Ticketek early. Frontier Touring Members can get theirs at noon AEDT on March 17 ahead of the general sale at 9 am on March 23.

Albert Hammond Jr Cancels Aussie Shows

Albert Hammond Jr has cancelled his Australian shows which were scheduled for this week. But unlike the Mary J Bliges of this world, The Strokes star has a very good reason.

He’s suffering a severe throat infection which has caused him to lose his voice. Understandably, his doctor’s advised him not to perform.

The cancellation affects tomorrow night’s Melbourne show, as well as gigs in Sydney and Brisbane and his slot at Splendour in the Grass.

If you’ve got a ticket you can take it to your place of purchase for a refund.
