The Veronicas Enjoy Irish Number One

The Veronicas are sitting pretty at the top of the Irish singles charts with “Untouched.” The song that just won’t quit knocked off Tinchy Stryder’s single, ironically called “Number 1.” Not anymore it’s not!

Meanwhile, the song reached number 8 in the UK last week, and it’s still selling well in the US. Not bad for two girls from Queensland! I can only imagine the hysteria when the twins hit Europe later this year!

The Veronicas Reality TV Show in the Pipeline

The Veronicas are on the verge of signing up for their own MTV reality TV series. The documentary-style show will be a behind-the-scenes look at the Aussie twins’ international rise.

“I can’t say too much about it but if we do it we’d have to make it our way,” Lisa Origliasso told The Daily Telegraph. “We are not interested in doing some crappy staged thing just to get ourselves on TV. We have to be into it and it has to be a genuine reflection of our lives and who we are.”

The timing couldn’t be more perfect, with the girls kicking off the American leg of their Revenge is Sweeter tour in New York tomorrow.

But the United States isn’t the only nation in love with our dynamic duo. They nabbed the number 8 spot on the UK pop charts with “Untouched” this week.

The Veronicas Rumoured for Big Screen Leap

The Veronicas heading to the silver screen? That’s the buzz out of the US after the Brisbane twins met with Academy Award-winning director Sofia Coppola.

The pop princesses have confirmed the meeting, but are staying mum on the details.

“[Sofia Coppola] contacted us to come in for a meeting,” Jess Origliasso said.

“But we can’t reveal what it was for. She is so cool and is actually a fan of our music, which is a huge compliment to us.”

The girls are currently in the America for their 40-show Revenge is Sweeter tour. They also filmed an episode of teen drama 90210 and performed at last night’s Miss USA Pageant, where they sang an “epic” eight-minute version of “Untouched.” How they stretched that song out to eight minutes I’ll never know!

The Veronicas Go Platinum

The Veronicas have become the first Australian act in the 21st century to become platinum-selling artists in the United States.

“Untouched” sold 67, 000 digital units in the last week in the US, bringing its total sales to 1.01 million.

No other Australian act has even cracked the top 20 in the US since Kylie released “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” in 2003. This new milestone is definitely worth celebrating. Well done girls!

The Veronicas Crack US Top 20

The Veronicas have become the first Aussies since Kylie Minogue to have a top 20 single in the United States. “Untouched” is currently at number 17 on the American charts after selling 758, 000 units.

“Feeling the energy of ‘Untouched’ doing so well in America is a great feeling. It’s a different style of music to breakthrough on the American charts, and people are excited. Especially us!” The Veronicas said in a statement.

Kylie peaked at number 7 in 2002 with “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.” Can the Brisbane twins do better? Only time will tell, but they should definitely be congratulated on their chart success so far!

Here’s the song that did it for them live at last year’s ARIA Awards!

Jess Origliasso Contemplates PETA Ad

After that unfortunate porn scandal last year, you’d think Jess Origliasso would have resolved to keep her clothes on in 2009. But it seems she might be stripping again this year. It’s all for a good cause though, with the Veronicas twin in negotiations with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Apparently the animal rights group spotted the popette sporting a faux fur jacket, emblazoned with the hand drawn message “F— Fur.” I’m sure Miss Origliasso’s wasn’t so censored though! The popstar and her sister Lisa also spoke up against the practices of a Chinese fur farm.

“Lisa and I support any foundation that is willing to educate and make a stand for animal liberation,” Jess told The Daily Telegraph.

“Death for these animals is a horror story – the most common method used for killing foxes is electrocution. I can’t speak for Lisa, but I admire the approach to the eye-catching photo shoots PETA do to get the important message out there. I would definitely love to be involved in something like that.”

If Jess does pose for PETA she’ll join other notable Aussie musicians including Natalie Imbruglia, Missy Higgins, and Something for Kate.

The Veronicas Glittering Birthday Bash

Aussie pop twins The Veronicas celebrated their recent 24th birthdays with a massive party at the Sydney Hilton Marble Bar last night. 100 of their closest friends joined the girls for the “rock and roll glitter” birthday bash.

Lisa Origliasso told The Daily Telegraph she hoped for a “new camera,” while her sister Jess aimed a little higher, wishing for “world peace.”

The guest list included Jess’ main squeeze Daniel “Azaria” Byrne and her gal pal Ruby Rose, and the new man in Lisa’s life, American singer and actor Reeve Carney.

The girls were born on Christmas Day, but American promotional commitments kept the girls far from their native Australia on the big day. It sounds like last night’s party helped to make up for it though!

Revenge is Sweeter for The Veronicas

After months abroad The Veronicas are coming home for some local shows. The Veronicas will visit capital cities and regional centres around the country in February for their Revenge is Sweeter tour.

“We’re so excited about coming home to tour for our fans in February!” gushed Jess Origliasso. “We’ve played some amazing shows across America over the last six months, but with all the surprises in store for our Revenge Is Sweeter tour, we think these shows are going to be our best yet. We can’t wait to see everyone again and share the show with you!””

The Brisbane twins will be joined by American sensations Metro Station and up-and-coming local outfit Short Stack.

The Veronicas Get a Reality Show

Broken engagements, missing boyfriends, a little girl on girl action … with all the scandal following The Veronicas these days it’s little wonder that American producers have given Australia’s most famous twins their own reality TV show!

But Jess and Lisa Origliasso aren’t phased by cameras following their every move.

“We document everything we do anyway,” Jess told The Daily Telegraph. “We often have camera crews on us on tour. It’s just about lives.”

It seems like every man and his dog has a reality TV series these days, but the show could be a major vehicle for promoting the dynamic duo overseas. And with so many rumours surrounding the girls, it could help set the record straight!

The Veronicas reality TV show is likely to air on American youth network MTV.
