Thundamentals Back on the Scene With “Top of the World”

Thundamentals have kept fans waiting four long years for new music, but their patience has been rewarded. Their latest track “Top of the World” is a feel-good number that celebrates life’s small wins. The band created the song as an ode to their youth, but I don’t think you’re ever too old for this brand of positivity.

Thundamentals have been together 15 long years. As they reach this milestone, it’s only fitting that they’re looking back on where they’ve come from. Let’s hope there’s plenty more from these guys. Hopefully they don’t leave us waiting so long next time.

Northeast Party House and Thundamentals Headline Brisbane’s Let the Music Play

In case you hadn’t heard, big events are back! Among them is Let the Music Play, the largest ticketed single-day festival in the history of the Fortitude Valley. It makes its triumphant return to Brisbane’s entertainment precinct this August.

Such a massive event needs a massive lineup and Let the Music Play doesn’t disappoint. Think Northeast Party House, Thundamentals, Wafia, Jesswar, Mash’d N Kutcher encouraging you to get on the beers, and heaps more. You’re also going to love Warner Street’s makeover as Unicorn Alley, an inclusive new space helmed by DJ and Fluffy promoter Harry K. Think drag queens, street performers, a whole lot of colour, and some fabulous disco tunes.

“We are proud to be able to announce the return of Let The Music Play,” confirmed Mark Gibbons, the event’s co-curator and head of programming at the Fortitude Music Hall. “After a critical few years for the live music industry, it is our duty to continue to support the Fortitude Valley, Brisbane live music venues, and the creative arts. This event honours past and present partygoers that frequent our creative spaces and show collective resolve against whatever the next obstacles thrown at us are – be it fire, flood, plague.”

Let the Music Play is so big that it’s going to take four venues to handle the stacked lineup. Catch it from 3 pm on August 13 at the Fortitude Music Hall, The Zoo, Brightside Outdoors, and Warner Street. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster now.

Thundamentals and More Play Frankston’s Pier Street Party

A who’s who of the Aussie music industry are heading to Frankston for the annual Pier Street Party. Thundamentals, Art vs Science, Gyroscope, The Getaway Plan, Rackett, and Jesswar will all take the Pier Street Party stage. There’ll also be food trucks and pop-up bars to keep the crowd well fed and hydrated.

“Frankston City is ready to rock as the Pier Street Party prepares for its second year,” said Frankston’s mayor Colin Hampton. “Council is delighted that our city will be hosting world class acts at this fantastic event for the community and visitors to enjoy.”

The Pier Street Party will take over the area outside the Pelly Bar & Pier Bandroom in Frankston on February 24. Tickets are on sale now through Oztix. Note that even though it’s held outside, it’s still an adults-only event.

Thundamentals Celebrate 10 Years With Decade of the Thundakat Tour

Thundamentals have carved out a reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting and beloved hip hop acts over the last decade. Now to celebrate their tenth anniversary, Thundamentals are looking to take their music to as many fans as they can through their epic regional tour, Decade of the Thundakat.

Thundamentals have made the most of their last ten years, earning ARIA and J Award nominations, headlining their own tours in Australia and Europe and supporting legends like A Tribe Called Quest, Big Boi, and Macklemore, as well as performing at virtually every festival in the country.

“It’s 10 years of releasing records and touring, sure, but it’s so much more than that,” Tuka explained. “It’s family, it’s a platform to contribute to our community, it’s connection to the broader community at large, it’s a wealth of life-changing experiences. To be fair, it’s a crazy thing to look back on. To listen back on…”

Thundamentals Continue the Party with Brand New Tour

Twelve months after the release of their third LP So We Can Remember, Thundamentals show no signs of slowing down. They already wowed crowds at Falls and Groovin, sold out their own headline shows, and supported the Hilltop Hoods all around the country, and now they figure it’s time for another headlining gig.

If you want proof of just how good these guys are live, check them out guesting on the Hilltop Hoods’ “Cosby Sweater” with a host of other hip hop stars for Triple J’s Beat the Drum. If that doesn’t put you in a party mood, nothing will.

Justice Crew Score Second Number One Single

Justice Crew have stormed to the top of the charts with the debut of their latest single “Que Sera.” This is their second number one, following “Boom Boom” in August 2012.

One of the other local acts to top the charts this year, Sheppard, are still going gangbusters with “Geronimo,” which sits at number four seven weeks after its release.

Also in its seventh week, global smash Iggy Azalea has moved up two places to sit at number seven with “Fancy.”

Sia’s also showing her staying power with “Chandelier,” which is at number nine two months after its first chart appearance.

We’re also seeing some impressive debuts on the albums charts. Thundamentals have debuted at number three with So We Can Remember, the third album from the hip hop group from the Blue Mountains and their first to grace the top 50.

Byron Bay hardcore act In Hearts Wake will also be happy with the number five debut of their sophomore album Earthwalker. This is their first top ten appearance after Divination peaked at number 27.

The Mothers’ Day rush has helped Harrison Craig hold steady at number seven with L.O.V.E. INXSThe Very Best and Chet Faker’s Built on Glass round out the top 10.

Thundamentals Spread Good Vibes with “Something I Said”

The album’s still a little while away, but Thundamentals have offered up a second sneak peek at their brand new album with the release of the feel-good single “Something I Said.” With special guest vocals from Thom Crawford, this song is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

I love its old school feel. Those beats and horns recall classic soul, and there’s even the sound of a kids’ playground to add an extra dose of fun.

Thundamentals will release their third album, So We can Remember, on May 2. To celebrate they’ll play a bunch of shows around the country, including sets at Groovin The Moo and some headlining gigs.

25 April 2014 – Groovin The Moo, Oakland

Thundamentals Announce Only 2012 Headliner Tour

Take note Thundamentals fans. The Sydney hip hop act are preparing to embark on their first and only headline tour for the year.

Given that they’re only giving us the one run of dates in 2012, it seems a little ironic to call it the Get Busy tour. To be fair though, they haven’t exactly been idle. The tour sees them taking time out from writing their follow-up to Foreverlution. MC Tuka’s also just released his second solo album Feedback Loop, and that’s keeping him pretty busy!

The lads are doing their best to get punters through the door. They’ll travel with a complete horns section and special guest vocalists, including Ev Jones. You might remember hearing Ev on their Triple J Like a Version cover of Matt Corby’s “Brother.” Thundamentals will also bundle a free MP3 of an exclusive new track with every ticket sold for the Sydney, Melbourne, and Blue Mountains shows. The trio’s also carefully chosen the venues to offer a “festival in your loungeroom feel.” Consider me intrigued!

It might seem a little early to bring you the dates, but with Thundamental’s last tour selling out and tickets being so limited plenty of notice is probably preferential! Tickets are available now from Moshtix and the venues.

27 October 2012 – Gearins Hotel Katoomba
2 November 2012 – The Basement 159, Geelong
3 November 2012 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
9 November 2012 – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
10 November 2012 – Sprung Festival, Brisbane
