A Day on the Green Celebrates the ’90s With Veruca Salt, The Lemonheads, & More

Once upon a time the Day on the Green concerts were aimed squarely at the baby boomers. However, it seems organisers have well and truly realised younger folks love great music and wine too, because their latest tour announcement is aimed squarely at people growing up in the ‘90s. The bumper bill features international acts Veruca Salt and The Lemonheads and our own The Living End, Spiderbait, Tumbleweed, and The Fauves.

Between them these alterna-rock legends have notched up eight ARIA Awards, had 12 top 10 albums, and 19 top 40 singles. That’s some serious talent on one bill. Don’t miss out when tickets go on sale on September 25 at 10 am from Ticketmaster.

It’s a Small World in Marrickville

Sydneysiders looking for a way to spend their Saturday should head on down to Marrickville. Tickets are still available for Small World, a fantastic one-day festival which celebrates the fantastic music, food, and craft beer of Sydney’s inner-west.

The lineup is fantastic, with enduring rockers Tumbleweed, punk string band Little Bastard, bluesters The Snowdroppers, hip hop act True Vibenation, and heaps more entertaining crowds.

Top inner-west eateries Bloodwood, Cornersmith, Mary’s, and Porteno will keep the punters bellies full. Finally, local brewery Young Henrys, the team behind the entire event, will showcase their drops including the Newtowner, the Cloudy Cider, and their new Nobile Cut Hand Crafted Gin.

Small World will hit Jabez Street, Marrickville, this Saturday, September 20. Tickets are on sale now from the Small World Festival website.

Tumbleweed and You Am I Headline Reclink Community Cup

The 2011 Reclink Community Cup is shaping up to be more than just a game of football. Tumbleweed and You Am I will both play at Elsternwick Park in Brighton on June 26.

These big names will be joined by Mercy Kills, The Rebelles, and the sensational Barry Morgan on his organ. Spicks and Specks fans are probably the only ones who know what I’m talking about, but I’m sure they’ll be there with bells on!

As if this year’s event wasn’t cool enough, organisers have given it the theme “Do You Love Me?” No, it’s not about the whining of insecure, lovestruck teens; it’s actually a tribute to Nick Cave. To celebrate, all bands on the bill will include a Nick Cave song as part of their set.

Check out the Community Cup website for more information about this year’s event.

Tumbleweed Make Reunion Official With New Album

Fans have been crossing their fingers for some time, but it seems Tumbleweed are making their reunion permanent.

The Wollongong grunge rockers reformed to play Homebake last year before performing shows around the country. But they were always noncommittal about what the future might hold.

It seems things are a lot more certain now, as they’re currently writing material for a brand new studio album. A double CD of all their early Waterfront recordings is also in the works.

Melbourne fans can catch Tumbleweed at The Hi-Fi Bar on June 25. No doubt we’ll see the band stopping by other cities in the not too distant future.
