Two Times Shy Drop Latest Pop-Punk Banger, “Losing My Mind”

If you’re looking for a Monday morning pick-me-up, press play. Two Times Shy’s latest single “Losing My Mind” has all the big pop-punk power chords and energetic vocals you need to get moving.

“‘Losing My Mind’ was written about a scenario in which multiple things are contributing to you feeling like you’re going crazy,” recalled the band’s frontman Douglas Hudswell. “The relationship that you are in is causing you grief and the problems are exacerbated by your inability to deal with them and your self-destructive tendencies. This whole situation leads to you being fed up, wanting to break free of the situation and needing to do things your own way for a while.”

The band’s It Looks Better Than It Sounds EP was one of my favourite releases of 2023. Hopefully this single is a sign that there’s plenty more new music from Two Times Shy on its way.

Two Times Shy Release Another Pop-Punk Bop, “Wits End”

I know I’m posting a lot of pop-punk these days, but god the scene is strong. When local bands just keep dropping stone cold bangers, what’s a girl supposed to do? The latest to capture my heart is “Wits End” from Two Times Shy. I know I’ve written a lot about these guys too, but when they keep producing such quality music I don’t want you to miss a thing.

“It’s an emotional journey, a reflection of those moments when you watch your life unravel, and everyone else seems to be moving forward while you’re stuck searching for answers,” explained Douglas Hudswell, Two Times Shy’s frontman.

The band will load up the van and hit venues across the East Coast next month. Catch Two Times Shy at the following hotspots:

4 November 2023 – Bodega, Jagera, Giabal and Jarowair Country/Toowoomba
9 November 2023 – The Workers Club, Naarm/Melbourne
11 November 2023 – The Hamilton Station, Mulubinba/Newcastle
17 November 2023 – Tomcat, Meeanjin/Brisbane
18 November 2023 – The Chippo Hotel, Eora/Sydney

Two Times Shy Drop Upbeat Pop-Punk Single, “Gone”

I hadn’t realised how much I’d missed Two Times Shy until I listened to their new single “Gone.” It’s a fun return to form for the Meeanjin/Brisbane band who brought us their stellar debut EP It Looks Better Than It Sounds in March this year.

“‘Gone’ tells a story of what it’s like to fall apart when the person you love and want to be with is not with you, how you feel when they are gone,” explained Two Times Shy’s frontman, Douglas Hudswell.

While they’re not headlining any shows for a while, Queenslanders can catch them supporting their pals from Forever on High when they officially launch their new single. Two Times Shy will warm up the crowds at Vinnie’s Dive in Yugambeh Country/Gold Coast on September 1.

“It Looks Better Than It Sounds” – Two Times Shy

I raved about Two Times Shy’s single “Tearing Up Inside” a couple of months ago. Now it’s found a home with the Meeanjin/Brisbane band’s debut EP. Don’t let its tounge-in-cheek name, It Looks Better Than It Sounds, fool you. These lads are playing coy, because it sounds fabulous.

Proving that there’s still life in the pop-punk genre, Two Times Shy come out swinging. Every song sounds like an instant classic. If you’re feeling a little relationship angst, tracks like the bold opener “Lonely” and “You and I” will strike a nerve. They’re all fantastic, with big guitar chords, singable choruses, and bold drums driving them along.

But for me “I’m Ready This Time” is the standout. From the opening acoustic guitar, you realise this is the song that breaks the formula. The pop-punk formula works well, don’t get me wrong, but this is the song that hints that this band offers a lot more than that. Its lyrics are truly vulnerable. It’s a real revelation. We also see their tender side with an acoustic cut of “Tearing Up Inside,” which really brings out the emotion behind this pop-punk smash.

There’s a reason these guys are on the radar of international tastemakers like idobi Radio. They’re bloody good. It Looks Better Than It Sounds is out now. Two Times Shy will launch the EP for hometown fans at Tomcat on April 14.

Two Times Shy Drop Pop-Punk Banger, “Tearing Up Inside”

If the pop-punk stylings of Meeajin/Brisbane band Two Times Shy don’t give you the energy you need to make it to quitting time, then nothing will. Their latest single “Tearing Up Inside” features the bold guitars, pounding drums, and emotional vocals you want in a pop-punk song.

“Tearing Up Inside is written about a relationship breakdown and how it feels to go through something so tormenting and heartbreaking,” the band explained. “Watching the one you love slip away, fall into the arms of someone else when there is nothing you can do about it; and although it tears you apart, you still love them and want to/will do everything you can to fix it. No matter how hard you try, the relationship meets its inevitable doom.”

There’s more to come from Two Times Shy, who will release their debut EP, It Looks Better Than it Sounds, on March 10.
