Velvet Bloom Releases Dreamy Soul Single, “My Love”

There’s nothing like some good classic-sounding soul music to make your day feel better. With her latest release “My Love,” Velvet Bloom delivers just that. This song pays tribute to the traditions of Motown, but it’s got some extra special sauce that helps keep things fresh.

Lead vocalist Maddy Herbert produced the track and engineered and mixed it with her long-time collaborator and bandmate Alex Marko to bring their artistic vision to life.

“‘My Love’ is about accepting and loving people for who they are, meeting them where they are at and growing together,” they explained. “We really wanted to capture that classic soul sound for this release, leaning into lots of techniques and production styles used by engineers in that era of music.”

The press release says this single “is the first taste of the band’s step into a new era of the project, carving out their celestial niche in the musical cosmos.” It’s a pretty grandiose statement, but if it means we get more music like this I’m here for it!

Velvet Bloom Releases Sweet, Soulful Single, “Glimmer”

Soulful Melbourne act Velvet Bloom turns on the charm with their latest single “Glimmer.” It’s another sultry number from Velvet Bloom. I really dig its cool jazz-waltz vibe and sweet lyrics.

“I wrote ‘Glimmer’ about my relationship with my mother and how much she inspires me,” explained Velvet Bloom frontwoman, Maddy Herbert. “My dad passed away when I was four and the strength that I saw in my mum following this loss helped to shape my entire being. This song is about expressing admiration for the people who you love and making them aware of how special they are. Some people have a major influence on the way you see the world and if that influence is positive – you should hold them close.”

“Glimmer” is the latest track from Velvet Bloom’s forthcoming self-titled debut EP. Preorders of the limited-edition vinyl are open now ahead of its April 8 release. You can hear some of the new music ahead of time at one of Velvet Bloom’s upcoming shows.

Velvet Bloom Casts a Spell With “Run”

Melbourne chanteuse Velvet Bloom effortlessly fuses jazz and soul influences in her stunning new single “Run.” It wraps you up like a big sonic hug, making you feel all warm and safe and comfortable. Her tone is just beautiful, effortless, easy. If you don’t have goosebumps after hearing this one, I suggest checking for a pulse.

“I remember writing this track during the second COVID lockdown in 2020,” Velvet Bloom recalls. “Restrictions were harsh and ‘Run’ was one of the first songs that I could fully resonate with after a creative lull. Sometimes, risks can be scary and the fear of sacrificing what you already have for something uncertain can cause inner turmoil. ‘Run’ is about overcoming those fears and leaning into the unknown with excitement.”

Despite this project’s relatively short time on the scene, Velvet Bloom has already supported Kim Churchill, Teenage Dads, The Grogans, The Mamas, and stacks more. She also recently played a sold-out show launching this single. Hopefully as the world gets back to normal we’ll have plenty of chances to see her live really soon.
