Wanderers EP is Out Now

What do you say about a band you’ve already raved about so many times? Every time Wanderers dropped a single from their recently released EP, I heaped praise on it. So now that their self-titled EP is out in the world, with just a couple of new tracks, I’m not sure what’s left that I haven’t already said before. However, this EP is so damn good that I can’t let its release go without some kind of fanfare.

So I’ll say this. Drop what you’re doing and listen. While you’re listening, you might want to read back on my reviews for “Malibu”, “Nothing in This World”, and “Penny”. Or maybe you just want to discover for yourself how good their classic rock sound is. Either way, just make sure you’re listening. If you love soulful rock with the retro influence of synths and saxophone, I know you’re going to flip over these guys.

Wanderers will soon jet off to South by Southwest but don’t worry Aussies; they’ll be back before you know it for EP launch shows around the country:

1 April 2022 – The Night Cat, Fitzroy
29 April 2022 – Felons Barrel Hall, Brisbane
30 April 2022 – Waywards at the Bank, Newtown
27 May 2022 – Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide

Get Nostalgic With WANDERERS’ “Malibu”

Like so many of us, WANDERERS seem to be experiencing a little wanderlust at the moment. Their latest single sees the band reminiscing about their last trip to the US. Many of us might not be able to jet off right now, but we can let our minds take us away with this fabulous track.

“Malibu to me is that place in my head, that mindset I was in on that trip, which is a state of mind I always try to get back to, where anything seems possible,” lead singer Dusty explained.

WANDERERS are set for a big 2022. Their self-titled EP drops on January 28 and they’re scheduled to play SXSW in March. They’ll be back no home soil before you know it, with a local tour already in the works.

Wanderers Bring the Good Vibes With “Nothing in This World”

If you’re having problems shaking off that new working week funk, press play. “Nothing in This World,” the soulful new single from Wanderers, is the perfect song to put a smile back on your dial. Fittingly, lead singer Dusty Lee penned the track as he tried to shake off his own funk and creative dry spell.

“I felt that I was at a crossroads at the time, approaching 30 and realising that my old algorithms for distraction and excitement weren’t really working the same way they used to,” he admitted. “I wanted more, but not sure what, when or how. All I knew was that my old tricks weren’t serving me anymore. So I dove deep into this feeling, which actually brought me some sort of clarity.”

The pandemic has seen Wanderers stuck in their native South Australia for some time, but all that will change this month with the duo announcing some shows in Queensland. Catch them at all the venues listed below if you can! Stay tuned if you live in the rest of the country. Wanderers aim to play gigs all around Australia in 2022.

Wanderers Drop Groovy New Single, “Penny”

Adelaide band Wanderers have found inspiration from the big screen for their latest single “Penny.” The track is a homage to Penny Lane, Kate Hudson’s character in Almost Famous. If you’ve longed for the return of yacht rock (and who hasn’t?), this is your tune.

Dusty Lee, Wanderers’ singer-songwriter, explained how the song came together quickly in the band’s 60s inspired cabin. “There was something in the air that night, what initially started as a jam, became a nearly fully fleshed out song in about an hour. Told from the perspective of the young journalist in the film and the impact the character Penny had on him.”

“Penny” comes from Wanderers’ forthcoming EP, which should drop later this year. The band will play the following shows in the coming weeks to celebrate its release.

21 August 2021 – The Lab, Adelaide
2 September 2021 – The Gaso, Upstairs, Melbourne
10 September 2021 – Soundcity, Port Lincoln

Groove Along to Wanderers’ New Single “What I Do”

I love this time of year. After a few stressful weeks when everyone wants everything done by the end of the year, companies start going on holidays and my own break starts feeling within my reach. I’m a big believer in the right song hitting my ears at the right time. Today I’m enjoying a soulful soundtrack courtesy of Wanderers and their feelgood new single “What I Do.”

This track has all the confidence and swagger of a hit from the ‘70s. I just love its upbeat groove and those killer vocals from Dusty Lee Stephensen. The Adelaide duo has released much funkier stuff in recent months, but they’ve still found themselves playing the Woodford Folk Festival. If you’re heading to the festival, make sure you catch their set.

Wanderers Drop Retro Soul Single Ahead of Aussie Tour

Adelaide outfit Wanderers have me feeling nostalgic with their new single “Off My Back.” It feels a little Hall & Oates, smooth, soulful, and so easy to listen to.

This track really is fresh out of the oven, coming from a recording session in January 2018 at Adelaide’s Wundenberg Studios. Having spent much of 2017 on the road, the guys were no doubt happy to be back at home, and that ease and relaxation shines through the single.

It won’t be too long before we see them back on stage though. Wanderers will tour “Off My Back” all around the country in the coming months.

Tinpan Orange Ready to Tour “Wanderers” Single

With their tour kicking off in a couple of short weeks, it seemed the perfect time to introduce you to Tinpan Orange’s dreamy new single “Wanderers.” The song pushes the boundaries of folk music with its unique string arrangements and lush layered sound. The video, captured by Sinem Saban, is also stunning.

“This clip was made at my friend Sinem’s house, using her daughter’s dolls, as our kids ran wild around us,” explained Emily Lubitz. “It’s about capturing an introspective and phlegmatic mood and putting it next to the dynamic scenes of Annie Oakley riding her horse with great purpose and flare. It’s about what we dream of doing while we sit, unmotivated in our bedrooms. The song has other layers to it as it also describes the feelings around a miscarriage I had earlier in the year but the clip doesn’t touch on that. Some things are meant to be heard and not seen.”

Tinpan Orange will play the following shows to celebrate the release of “Wanderers.” Get your tickets now from the Tinpan Orange website.

Wanderers’ New South Wales Tour Starts Tonight

Adelaide trio Wanderers blew me away with the single “Loco” in January. The EP Something of a Distraction came a month later, but I must have been distracted because I’m only just listening to it now. Just in time too, as it turns out, because after wowing crowds in Europe and the United Kingdom, the band is back on Aussie soil ready to kick off a New South Wales tour tonight.

If you’re not already acquainted with Wanderers, do yourself a favour. Their music is so much fun, soulful with hints of funk, gospel, and straight up rock and roll. This live clip of “Loco” gives you an inkling of what I mean, but you can see for yourself at the following venues.

Wanderers Win Me Over With “Loco”

Is there anything like a little sweet soul music on a Monday afternoon? After a busy day, I couldn’t ask for a better soundtrack to take a little “me time” than Wanderers’ new single “Loco.”
