Worm Girlz Release Latest Banger, “Go Fishing”

The Worm Girlz revolution continues with the release of the Meeanjin/Brisbane-based outfit’s latest single “Go Fishing.” This talented quintet have made a name for themselves releasing cathartic tracks that celebrate connection and rising above adversity. This latest release is no different. Its lyrics are a powerful reminder to never take the “bait” in one-sided relationships.

“‘Don’t be a drag, just go fishing!” enthused Worm Girlz’ vocalist Lauren. “I think all toxic people literally just need to go fishing. Nothing like a natural water source and some alone time to allow for self-reflection and growth. A fun switch-up from our more emotionally-driven songs, ‘Go Fishing’ is an upbeat crowd favourite, perfect to soundtrack your next gatho or house party.”

“We hope this song inspires people to stop letting other people run their lives! Go fishing, get away from me, you need a nap!” added guitarist Jade.

Worm Girlz Release Stunning New Single “Not My Body”

We know Worm Girlz as the fierce punk rock act who’ve released bangers like “Dirt” and “Cool Girl.” But they’re showing a much more vulnerable side with their latest track “Not My Body.” It’s such a brave, beautiful ballad that lays bare a lot of the insecurities the members of this incredible band have felt in their skin.

“’Not My Body’ is an emotional outburst induced by the impossible standards placed on body image,” lead vocalist Lauren explained. “It encapsulates the personal experiences of Worm Girlz and the sensation of experiencing both body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria.”

I already considered myself a worm girl after listening to the band’s other singles, but this latest release has taken my love to a whole new level. This is a band with so much to say, who creates such an inclusive community and safe spaces wherever they go. That’s special. That’s powerful.

Worm Girlz will bring their special magic to West End Girls Winter Edition at The Bearded Lady in Meeanjin/Brisbane on July 13. If you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss it.

Worm Girlz Release Latest Power Punk Anthem “Cool Girl”

Crank up your speakers and then press play. Worm Girlz’ latest single “Cool Girl” demands to be played loud. It’s a fierce, frenetic rocker that is bound to put a smile on your face and your fist in the air. If this is the new wave of grrrl power, I’m here for it!

“We wrote ‘Cool Girl’ as a call to action to hold your mates responsible and call them out when you witness inappropriate behaviour,” explained vocalist Lauren. “Again and again we’ve had to sit and listen while people we know attempt to justify the manipulative, discriminatory, or even abusive acts of their shitty friends and there’s not much more we can take, so we channelled our upset and frustrations into writing this song. We urge listeners to raise the bar by being better bystanders and speaking up in abusive situations or else the consequences can be deadly.”

Worm Girlz recently declared on social media that 2024 is the Year of the Worm, and with strong tunes like this in their arsenal it’s hard to disagree!

Worm Girlz Start a Revolution With “Dirt”

Worm Girlz have come out swinging with their fierce debut single “Dirt.” If you’ve ever been harassed at a live show and felt frustrated because you just came to see the band, I know this track will resonate with you.

“I am so sick of feeling uncomfortable at gigs, I am sick of hearing that other people are feeling uncomfortable at gigs,” stressed proud Worm Girl, Jade Montgomery. “’Dirt’ is a big eff off to anyone that thinks it is okay to ignore boundaries and touch people without their consent.”

“When Jade shared the chorus of ‘Dirt’ with me for the first time I fell instantly in love with the world I saw for Worm Girlz,” added her band mate Lauren Rowe. “The rest of the song came together really quickly after that. It was electrifying.”

Apparently this song marks the start of worm domination, and I’m here for it. This band say they’re committed to the message of the song and want to work hard to promote safe habits at gigs to ensure women and members of the LGBTIA+ community feel safe at their shows. They’re also imploring other bands on the scene to do the same. Worm Girlz also hope that their queer voices can help others in the community known they’re not alone.

“There’s a saying in the asexual community, ‘I’d rather have cake’ and I love the connection in our chorus,” Lauren added.

According to the press release, “Worm Girlz is an energy; a way of life; a mantra. Why be anything else when you can be a worm girl?” Why indeed? Residents of Meeanjin/Brisbane can get on board when Worm Girlz play The Bright Before Christmas at The Brightside on December 15.
